insane??? illegal???
Can someone tell me if I am pushing my luck or breaking the law??
I ordered a lay-flat bracket from D9 (which is great). I am going to have to do some mods to my cups and mounting screws on the tach/speedo.
While I had it torn down, I started looking at it...This thing looks GREAT without the instruments.
Is there anyone out there that would run without the instruments? Can anyone give me a solid reason (beyond the obvious) why I shouldn't run without?
Thanks

I dont think there is any laws against it, call your local PD non emergency line and or check w/ your dmv should clearly state required equip for a motorcycle.
also they make super small flat low profile digital speedo tachs for custom bikes( choper types)
ill try to find link

I looked BRIEFLY at Indiana code and could find no wording that Motorcycles must be equipped with speedo or odometer. In fact, it mentioned motorcycles not needing an odometer. That being said, a trooper will always find a reason to ticket if he wants. I am not a lawyer and I am not from Indiana.
I for one would not want to run without some form of odometer and tach. I would hate to guess on fuel consumption/mileage and I watch the revs more than speed. Estimating speed is not too hard on the roads.

Indiana law exempts motorcycles manufactured before 1/1/1956 from having speedometers. After that, it's mandatory.

the main reason i would not ride without instruments is speed cameras, u would not have a drivers liscence ,and a lot less cash in the bank if you tried that in oz..

I thought about that too, jc. I'd LOVE to run without the speedo. I did a little researching and couldn't find anything that said I had to have one to pass PA inspection, but everyone told me I was nuts so I let it drop. Looks cool as sh*t though.

You could use one of those small bicycle computers for speed and odo. And just mount it to the tripple clamp. The dual sport guys do it all the time.

Ok, send me my bracket back - and then get in touch with JG... who makes
my $hit look downright lame... After seeing these pics, I'm thinking
about folding up my tent and taking up cake decorating, LOL

Not sure about the legal side of it over there, but in the UK, a speedo is a must. That said, law only says that a speedo is required, not where it should be mounted. A few people I know use a pedal cycle computer...under their seat!!! I have seen a bike with a small speedo mounted pretty much where the Speedie/Am ignition thing is, that is, behind the left leg.

I hope you didn't take that the wrong way. No way I'm sending the bracket back! If I am going to have to have a speedo, I want it in this bracket.
I am going to for a old school look. Without the gauges, it looks like a 50's flat tracker.
