FRS ProblemO - Advise ?

All,

Hummm... I've been mess'n with a few intercom & Bike-to-bike FRS systems this season whole year now. I tried the NADY Intercom. That just sucked for me - FM was useless, and PTT or VOX would not make it at any speed except stop. Though the manual PTT Button always works, but thats way to hard on the bike. And the constant static of the other mode that would work of on-all-the-time, just killed the ride for me. So that was that - uninstalled and thrown on the shelf...

Next, bought a NADY FRS Radio System. VOX didn't work at any speed above 30MPH as would be too wind noisy and comm just would beark up from one unit to the other. PTT was better but at 40MPH+ the system would not transmit or receive well and voice was broken up and not understandable at all like it was cutting out, and the units ceased to function until we'd stop, turn them off and then back on. Bummer. I've been trying not to break the bank on this stuff, I surely can't afford two $400+ea. Autocom Systems.

So I bit half the bullet and went to two ChatterBox MultiSport FRS Units. While better, at around 40MPH+ voice is broken and we cannot understand one another at all either VOX or PTT (Push to Talk). One Channel will not work at all bike to bike either most of the time. But when we are slow or at a stop, seems to work fine...

It has been suggested that perhaps I have an electrically noisey T100 that is causing the problem. I could believe that. And that resistor spark plugs and shielded or better ignition wires might help the problem.

Huh? Now I know from my boyhood days, the noisy ignition systems in our 1960's abd '70's hot rods tore up televisions and the 8track systems, and radios we'd install and we had to do that resistance plugs and better ignition wire stuff, but...?

Any ideas, or thoughts? Or where can I find such Resistance Spark Plugs for the T100 and better or Shielded Ignition Wires...?

Any help? It's a family thing to keep the wife and me involved and more enjoyable on the ride better.

-Signed- Getting Broke, really pi$$ed off, and desperate...

Although I haven't tried to listen to the radio over my system, I think it would work OK when I'm within range of a station. I just plug in my MP3 player and it is loaded with the music I like to hear. I have never had a noise issue. The pillion to rider communication is clear as a bell and the bike to bike is very good also--depends on the reception quality of the 2-way radios. The VOX system works at speeds up to 80 mph--haven't checked it out above that speed. I have even plugged in my cell phone once and it was clearer than sitting in my house. The person on the other end couldn't tell I was on the motorcycle until I stopped and started off with the Togas talkin.

If you haven't guessed by now, I am talking about a Starcom1 system--costs a little but delivers a lot.

As far as the noise issue, don't forget the DC filter...in the old days, I believe more noise came in on the DC power than ever did over the antenna.

ChatterBox MultiSport FM FRS has antenna attached to the radio unit. Unit attached to my headhat on left side. Have both Flip-up full faced, and open face helmets, with appropriately equipped speaker and mic kits wire installed within, we use depending on the weather and trip.
