Sprocket cover differences
On my wifes '01 bike, the sprocket cover has a very useful dense foam 'pad' inside the sprocket cover, all properly contained by a tidy 'plate'. It act's as a useful means of soaking up the excess 'Scottoil'.
On my '07 bike, which has the T100 outfitting, ie, chrome cover, there is no such pad assy & the oil tends get flung around & ends up on various bit's & piece's which seem to be to cluttered around the sprocket area, ie stand/springs etc.
Anybody know when the foam bit's were stopped ? or was it an early 'extra' ?? It seems a good thing to have.

cover
Tats a new one on me?? Maybe something the previous owner put on?
It can get pretty messy in there. I clean 2x / yr. Not a prety site but better than dripping down the side cases!

My 2001 Came With Chrome Covers And It Also Has The Fome Pad
And The Plate.
I Can't Imagin Why They Would Stop Putting Them In.

My 2005 standard doesn't have the pad. It does get messy under there.

yeah, not sure why they stopped that cause it sounds like a great plan.

Cheers all.....that's a bugger. I hoped that they'd forgoten to put it on when they put the chrome cover on, but, obviously they've stopped doing them. It's a shame because it definately works.
Also noticed that the side covers on the '01 are metal ( albeit very thin) & on the '07 they're plastic. More cost cutting as a guess. No real difference, per se, but still indicative of penny pinching.

The metal is indeed thin, but its real easy to buff it with white and red compound until it looks like chrome, after stripping off the lacquer

No Foam Pad for Me... Please.
I decided to wash my bike just this morning. After noticing chain lube oozing down from under the sprocket cover, I decided it was time to remove it (for the first time) and clean underneath there too. Well after one year and 9,000 miles of over-lubing my chain, there was one hell of a mess in there.
As hard as it was to clean all that sticky and grungy chain lube out, I imagine that a foam pad would have only made a messy situation even worse. I'm guessing that maybe they decided it wasn't such a great idea to include the foam pad, when there are lazy bastards like me riding their bikes.
