aluminium frame

this is a future question ( when I get a second bike and can tear this one down)
but has any one looked into building an aluminium frame for thier boonie??
I figure once you squeeze all the ponies the next would be dropping weight, and a black anodized frame would be sweet- disclaimer if no one has thought of this yet and are inspired to build them ,I call dibs on a discount he-he

the frame isn't all that heavy, and I'd think with aluminum you'd have to have more material than the stock steel frame and the weight savings wouldn't be all that great.

I've had the bike stripped to the bare frame, and the weight is in the engine, make no mistake.

if you're really wanting to lighten up your bonnie, a better and easier way would be to get aluminum mag wheels and an aluminum swingarm. The swingarm weighs a ton and there is a company that makes alum. swingarms for the bonnie. I bet with wheels and an alloy swingarm you could lose around 30 pounds. Get a smaller headlight, smaller gas tank, seat, no fenders, lose the airbox, a lighter exhaust, etc and you could probably lose something in the neighborhood of 40-50 pounds total including the wheels and swingarm.

Hinckley Hellcat

With just a bit of cutting here and there,my bike weighs 460 with a full tank of gas. She`s 434 at reserve,so the last 30 miles or so are hilarious.

Thats light Steve - my Thrux now weighs in at 481 fully fueled and the Smuggler packed full. The Corbin Smuggler is very heavy compared to stock though.

Say rodburner, I saw your bike in a previous post and it looked familiar to one that Sean sent me........is this an earlier shot of you tearin' up the road?

Sorry rod, just thought it was an earlier version....eerily similar. Say did you powder coat your engine or is that a paint scheme. If its powder coat. or paint, how about a few details, how, where, who, how much, down time etc.
It sure looks TUFF!!

where can I purchase this aluminum swingarm? Sounds like a very very good idea. It's unsprung weight and could deffinately be stiffer.
