replacement ignition coil brands

I was all set to test and if need be replace my ignition coil this weekend after many klm of lousy running, but it actually finally gave up the ghost of all places on the road going past the mechanic ive been taking the bike to.

He has confirmed that its cactus and wants to replace it with a GSXR750 ignition coil and lead set, but it seemed odd enough that i wanted to run it past you good people first. Are these suitable for an 06 Boneville 790 ?

What other standard units are suitable for the Bonneville that may be also readily available.

Incidentally, the triumph genuine unit is an astounding AUS$370.

thanks in advance

I installed a Nology Profire Twin Tower coil ($75 US) with NGK Plug Leads ($50 US) from New Bonneville.com. This replacement was strictly preemptive in nature, as I have heard that the standard units will fail in time. I'm no coil expert, but I do know that there are differerences in ohm resistance requirements, depending on the bike. This is why I do my shopping with Triumph specialists...they eliminate the guesswork for me. Anyhow, a thumbnail follows:

Thumbs up Nology

I bought the Nology Pro Fire Coil and the Nology Hot Wires along with 2 NKG Iridium plugs from British Customs. I didn't waste a penny there!

Wire-Coil Connection

I'm surprised at how ill-fitting the rubber boots are on the stock plug wires (coil end of the wires). The boots don't seal at all, and in fact collect water like little cups when I wash my bike. Very sloppy engineering. Has anyone found, in replacing their wires only, that the replacement wires fit better on the coil?

What kind of benefit did you see? Did the engine run any smoother?

I had the dealer put this on a soon as she was uncrated. I can only go by what the Triumph Guru said to me. He claims it was the smoothest idling Triumph he ever setup and he is now sold on Nology and British Customs Performance Package.

had the coil replaced with the suzuki unit today. existing unit showed no resistance at all with a multimeter. it ran well and pulled strongly for the first 15mins and still does, but still running as rough as guts.

tomorrow off to visit a mate with a bonnie thats running sweet to swap out parts until we find the problem(s) hopefully. Maybe the suzuki coil, maybe dirty carbs, maybe balancing (although did this recently), maybe some other ignition part....

seems to get a lot worse the warmer it gets.

strong petrol fumes coming from right side pipe after i stop......

the heartache continues

coil swapped, ignitor swapped, leads swapped, carbs pulled and cleaned, float height checked, jets cleaned, fuel lines cleaned and bike still runs poorly.

definite improvement with the new coil (bike virtually died before - but now runs much stronger so compression not an issue i dont think) but still rough as guts and sounds like sh1t through the whole throttle range which gets worse as it warms up.

trailered it back to the dealer this afternoon. enough to make you either find or lose religion very quickly. Still, hoping its a dealer thing rather than a bike thing - but even that is academic at this point in time.
