K&N Filters

OIL FILTERS - Noticed that New Bonneville has the KN-191 filter for the Bonnie. The K&N site itself has the KN-204 listed for the Thruxton. Anyone know the difference? It also duplicated the Bonnie application for later years. Is this due to the larger displacement of the 865 motor?

K&N also change the numbers on the new air filters. I don't know if there is a difference other then the number. Why not use a filter built in the USA.
Mobil 1, Pure-One, NAPA or others?

My guess is there is no difference. My 2007 Tiger takes the same oil filter as my 2003 T-100 bonnie. New Bonneville will sell you the correct oil filter--Brent is a rider and uses them also.

Larry- In my 05-865cc I am running the NARK, D&D pipes , 42's. 155 mains, stock needles and 3 turns out on my pilot screws. I see you are 1 turn out. My bike runs great , idles good and I am wondering if I have them too far out? I will hopefully get my Bonnie on the Dyno very soon to ck my A/F ratios. Most everybody seems to be running them 2 1/2 turns out at least.
Whats up? Thanks R

The oil filters I like are the Purolator Pure One and the Mobil One and the SS Scott reusable. We have the T100 and the Speedtriple and the '06 Sprint
in my garage and all three filters fit all the bikes.

A lot of racer types like the little nut on the K&N,because it makes it easy to safety-wire. Personally,I wouldn't waste my money. Cut one open, and it's just an average filter. Not as good as the Wix,or Purolator filters. NAPA,and CARQUEST filters are made by Wix.

Here are a few numbers that might be useful.
Wix....51358
Baldwin...B1400
Fram.....Ph6017a
Hastings.....LF113
A/C......PF2135
Purolator.....ML16817
CARQUEST......85358

(I'm not sure if that is the PureOne,or the standard Purolator filter.)
I would use the Fram as a last resort only. The rest of these are excellent filters.
Hope this helps.
Cheers!
Bruce

HiVel,

You're trying to compare apples to oranges (865's to 790's)...the cam timing is that much different, IMHO. The jetting will vary greatly (between the 865's and 790's) for the bottom end and the top end. The 790's with NARC and open silencers really should be running size 40 pilot jets (stock), IMHO. I had the 42's in when it was set up on the EGA, so I left them in.

Another variable that affected the size pilot jets on my 790 is the headers. When I was running the headers without the crossover, I ran 45 pilot jets. As soon as I put the stock headers back on, I had to go down in size on the pilot jets. I liked the headers without the crossover from a performance stand-point (low and medium range torque was great). The reason I changed back to the stock headers was a product quality issue and a clearance issue.
