waterproof coil

There have been mentions of the Bonnie/Thruxton coil becoming soaked and making the bike die in the rain. Apparently this is not the case with all of them, because two of us on 2004 and 2006 Thruxtons came over 4th of July pass in Idaho two days ago in weather that qualifies us to re-register our bikes as submersibles, and no problems. Good thing, because we both planned to seal our coils before the trip but didn't get around to it..
I will try to post more on the epic ride through Washington, Idaho, and Montana, through Yellowstone and over Beartooth pass (wow!).

How do you "seal the coil"?

sealing

I think you smear it with silicone. Try a search - I hadn't gotten to the point of finding the instructions...
