Still have not picked up a bonnie, trying to find a used one, but anyhow, how bad does it suck riding on the highway without a windshield at 65+, since your body is pretty exposed on the bonnie?

You get use to it. I had a summer screen that sucked.

In my experience it depends in part on weather conditions. If it's calm, ie no headwind, riding the Bonnie is reasonably comfortable without a screen, especially if you wear earplugs. The windnoise, even with a full face helmet, can be quite irritating IMO, and really bad for your hearing. If there is a significant headwind, the Bonnie will tire you out after awhile, and I find I compensate for headwind by just slowing down some. Without a headwind, my bike is quite comfortable at 70-75 mph.

You can ride pretty comfortably at 65 but a flyscreen such as a Dart punches a nice hole in the wind at 65 and above. Agree that ear plugs help.

No problem on the freeway with a bonnie, summer screen and a good open road helmet and sun visor.....really stops the head buffetting

Reason i ask is that IMO windsheilds look like ***** on this bike, take away from the look, all you see is BAM, windsheild everywhere.

I'm old and I find it tiring to ride with the upright ergos for a long time (over an hour trip) without a shield. Since I tour a lot I have a large windscreen.
I also get sick of picking bug guts out of my jackets and wiping guts off my helmet and visor. The bugs know exactly where to splatter on the shield precisely in my field of vision when I'm traveling in a situation where I can't stop for a while. :-D Plus, at high speeds some large, solid bugs really sting when they hit an exposed area, and there are always some exposed areas.
I hated the summer screen but used the hardware from it to buy a ClearView custom screen that is four inches wider than the SS and, in my case 5" higher. It gives good protection but I can still see over it, not through it.

JF: you posted as I was riding. Sounds like your mind was already made up before you posted originally. :-D
In any case it partly depends on the wind shield. Some have almost no visible chrome. Here's mine.

Screens suck, the ruin the looks and they catch the wind, adjust your riding speed to the current conditions.

I had a similar question after I felt a bit uneasy my first time breaking 60mph.
But I've ridden a lot more at speed, and I've gotten quite comfortable, but like others say, it depends on conditions.
If I am over 70, I usually have my feet on the passenger pegs and I am leaned over the tank. Kind of feel like superman - its just straight pavement in front of you.
