I bought my Bonnie in Columbus (100 miles) because the closer dealer in Canton (40 miles) didn't have any Bonnies left over from '05 in early '06 when I bought. However, I had previously purchased my Tbird at Harding's Park Cycle, Canton, and subsequently bought Sue's Vulcan there.

Not wanting to go to Columbus for the valve clearance check and likely adjustment I decided to take it to Harding's. They said it would be 3 hours ($217) if they had to change shims and 1 hr ($74) if they did not. I made appt for Thur, planning to take it up Wed. eve. However, it is supposed to pour Wed. so I decided to take it up early, on Mon. Did so, left the bike and figured I'd pick it up Th or Fri after work.

Got a call Tues afternoon telling me that the bike was ready to pick up and that all they had to do was check the clearances. Everything was A-OK.

What's the big deal? Just this: do you know how easy it would be to put a few used shims in a plastic bag, hand it to me and tell me that I owed the 3 hour job rate plus the cost of the shims? But they didn't do that, and they got the bike done two days before my appointment.

The weather front is supposed to be through here by mid afternoon, and this dealer stays open to 8PM M-Thurs, so I can get it tomorrow.

Generally, I hate dealer service departments and my experience has backed that up, until now. So I just think that when a dealer does something right they should get their props.

Good on you, Harding's Park Cycle, Canton, Ohio

Monte

A refreshing change from some other dealer stories lately.
I am sure they will reap the rewards of their honest service.

You will be good as long as they did not screw anything up doing the checks.

I would check the bike closely before riding off, gas tank
bolted on right, cables routed ok? Fuel line not falling off? oil leaks? etc.

Or maybe they did absolutely nothing and you DO need a valve adjustment?

I always suspect most shops...

The only way you know for SURE is if YOU checked the valve clearance.....

Brett: I agree and thot about that even as I posted, having had bad dealer experience in the past. But I guess I have to decide just how paranoid I want to be on this one because I have no intention of checking valve clearances myself anymore. Been there, done that too many times over the years.

I'll check the bike good before I ride off but will just have to trust them that they checked it.-- and pray. At least I'm still good at that and its something I still like to do! :-D

just to wrap this thread up: picked up the bike this afternoon and it was fine. No leaks, everything tightened down properly, etc. Total cost including tax was $72. I'm satisfied and STILL think that an old dealer service basher, like ME, should also admit it when he finally does get good, quick, friendly and knowledgable service from a dealer. It may be very rare, and in my prior experience it has been, but this time this dealer did fine.

My thumbs are up for Harding's Park Cycle.

About as easy as not touching the bike and saying that they checked the clearances and you didn't need any shims.

I'm kidding you Monte. There are still a few honest dealers out there. Lucky for me, mine's one of the good guys too.

Yep, good service is a blessing.

I've had my Bonnie in to Second Wind Triumph twice now:

500 mile service and today to install TORS and Progressive springs. Well pleased. Nice people. Fair prices. Great service.

Joe, the resident Triumph guru, is very knowledgeable, helpful and just plain fun to talk Triumph with. :-D
