I just spent the day installing the NARK. It took me about 4 hours to do everything. One thing I did different was to siphon the gas out of the gas tank. I was paranoid that I would screw up and take the wrong hose off or something and then gas would run all over.

I ran into a real hitch trying to get it out through the rear of the bike. I disconnected the shocks and jacked up the bike to lower the wheel. It lowered an impressive amount but the swing arm ran into this round device which still baffles me. It was held in place by what looked like twist ties. On one end there was a cap that was easily removable. Underneath the cap there was some sort of diaphragm and a spring. On the other end of the cylinder there is some sort of snorkle that isn't connected to anything and easily spins around. At any rate I decided not to take it off the bike. I took first the right side of the airbox off. No improvement. Then I took the left side off. It would finally fit through the frame side to side, but it was too tall to clear the wheel. I considered letting all the air out of the rear tire but decided against it, figuring that it might not work anyway, and then I would have a flat tire. I thought about taking the rear wheel off but decided against it, having never done that. I ended up taking a dremel tool to the airbox and cutting it out. Everything went back together really well, although it is very disconcerting to see all of the extra screws.

There is a hose that runs from the center of the petcock apparatus and looks like it once plugged into the top of the airbox. I have no idea what that is or what to do with it so I left it alone.

I decided to rejet without taking the carbs off the bike or even moving them to the side. This required a right angle phillips head screw driver. At the end I installed the 3mm allen screws to put the bowls back on. I decided just to replace the main jet. I put a 145 in. The mixture screw came from the factory just under 2 turns out. I turned the mixture screw to 2 1/2 turns out. I left the stock 40 pilot jet in place. I don't have the pipes to put on (backorder) so I just have the headers right now. Eventually I will have D&D's to snap on. I put everything back together, put gas back in the tank and then crossed my fingers.

The results were astonishing. Story time! It started right up. I choked it for about 15 seconds. Immediately the lady who was on the balcony across the way from my carport went inside. I turned the choke off and reved it a bit. ZOH MAH GAWD!!!! It was unbelievably loud and the engine sounded incredible. To hell with the Harley sound - British Iron forever baby! At this point I was trembling with anticipation and I couldn't resist. I took it for a ride around the complex. The exhaust note was echoing off the buildings. A kid on the sidewalk thought about running out in front of me, and reconsidered.

I took it out on the street in front of the complex and let it loose. The sound was deafening. The front wheel lifted off the ground slightly in both first and second gear. That has never happened before. I didn't try 3rd because I ran out of street. I took it back and parked it. Now all I have to do is resist the urge to run out and start it up while I wait for my pipes.

I cannot recommend modifying your choked down Bonnie highly enough. DO IT.

Without seeing it, I suspect the round thing was the canister which can be removed along with the air injection system. That gets rid of a lot of hoses.

I have to say, I'm impressed that you just dove right in there. A lot of people would do that and end up with a dead bike and a bucket of mystery parts.

Removing the rear wheel isn't as hard as it looks. Sometimes going ahead and removing the stuff that's in the way makes the job easier in the long run. But you managed it the way you did it, so you rock!

Removing the rear wheel is fairly easy, getting it back on is a P.I.T.A. :hammer: Just my opinion. :-D

I'm pumped that everything went so well. I just went out and started it again just to be sure I wasn't imagining that it worked. I wish my D&D's would hurry up and get here. All I have to do is slap those suckers on and begin the process of tuning.

Does anyone have an '06 bonnie with NARK +D&D's? I would be interested in what you are doing with your jets/needles.

I was hoping to get things close and then go for a dyno/EGA run. I found a place close by that will do it for $30. They also said they would do a complete tuning for $250 but who knows if they know their a$$ from a hole in the ground. I'm not sure I trust anyone to work on my bike. I guess if I get stuck I can take it to them and plop down the cash.

Good luck,

Andy

OK this may be a stupid sounding question given that I just ripped the bike apart and put it back together, but ...

What are people using for a wrench to get the spark plugs out? It seems like there is very little room in there and it almost looks like you would have to remove the tank without a special wrench to take out the plugs. Or do people just use a standard spark plug wrench? Is it 14 mm?

BTW I almost shot coffee outa my nose on this liner:

"Immediately the lady who was on the balcony across the way from my carport went inside."

On another note, I spent 45 minutes chopping my box with a dremel and small hack saw. The NARK sounds cool, but YIKES!

Predators, baby Predators. Just like the ol 72 Commando, it tears the ear drums outa spectators while going through tunnels... :-D
