After 5,000 miles I've been having continued problems with my Scrambler not quite running right, and getting poor fuel mileage.

So I was just looking over all the vacuum lines, checking connections (California model, evap system), and I noticed that 3 of the 4 lines from the carbs/manifolds have little metal plugs in them, just in far enough that the hoses will still fit over the nipples on the carbs / intake mani's.

They have tiny holes drilled in the center, so they don't completely block the line, but severely restrict it.

Thoughts?

Are these supposed to be there?

If so, shouldn't all 4 lines have them?

Ok, I went and traced the lines again, and the ones off the forward connectors (manifolds) run to different places, so I guess it could make sense that one might be restricted, but not the other.

If this is the way its supposed to be, can anyone confirm which one is supposed to be restricted and which isnt (to AI system or to Evap canister)?

It's getting awfully tempting to just remove both the AI and the Evap system

Thanks,
