Hello all,

I'm new to this discussion, but I have been working on similar carbed engines for a while. I used to race snowmobiles and shifter karts, so I have some good knowledge for tuning carbs.

So first off I haven't read anywhere about anyone trying or even hearing about the amazing looking Zard exhaust options for these bikes.

http://www.zardexhaust.it/

They have many different exhaust options for all the Bonnies. I'd really be interested to hear if anyone has tried these exhaust systems and what kind of performance gains were recognized. I really like the predator pipes, but the Zard 2 into 1 system looks amazing.... (I would like to have both)

Also, for some all out performance, has anyone ever heard of removing the balance shafts? Sure it would create some extra vibrations at high rpm, but this is a popular mod when racing the Suzuki gs 500, which is also a parallel twin.

Hope this isn't too much for one post :-D

Hello, andyThrux - I think there was a posting of Zard exhaust a while ago for the Scrambler, pretty radical looking stuff, I recall. Unpainted or chromed, visable welds, etc. With the bikes, I suppose you can get as radical as money will let you. While in high school, a guy I knew put a Chevy 327 ci motor in a Volkswagon. Why? Because he could.

No, his name was not Karl. This was in 1969; I'd be amazed if that thing was still around!

Andy,we`ve ALL heard of the Zard systems, but I`ve never seen a post by anyone that has actually seen one for the Bonnie. They came to us at Thanksgiving time soliciting pre orders ,showing us multiple systems and even discount prices. Still, either nobody ordered or they did and are still waiting to see their purchase 8 months later. I`m guessing they found the same problems with short and high pipes that I have ,in building my own systems, for linear power delivery the pipes need to be long, and the high pipes need to be small to allow clearance between the sidecovers and your body/pantlegs. I didn`t notice the high pipe pics or ad copy mention them providing new, inset sidecovers or rear brake master cylinder relocate kits like the Shark system does, but you never know. I hope that if they do produce a system for us that its the baddest monkey in the zoo,but in the meantime,I`ll personally continue to think all the pics were just pipedreams with no regard to fit or function. I hope to eat these words someday. Really !
Steve
