pull the AI (air injection) to keep from bluing the devil out of the headers - and putting some quality mufflers on it (British Custom's Predators, D&Ds, etc) and eliminating the stock airbox will really wake it up. It's kinda dull in stock form - but ridable still.

Call Sean at British Customs and get the Power Package, Nology wires & coil, Iridium plugs, center stand, and Tach kit and you will be all set! That is what I had my dealer put on my bike as soon as she was uncrated. They had to re-jet with their own jets because the ones that BC sent didn't work right.

Really the best advice is to ride the bike for 1000 miles or so, and then you decide what you want to change. There are lots of good ideas on the site, but you should change what you want to. But do get rid of the AI. My dealer pulled mine off before I even picked up the bike.

Enjoy and ride safe.

Where in Jersey are you buying your bike, I bought mine at Trebours in Ledgewood, they where real good to me.

I'm with wenzel850. I promised myself six months before messing with the bike.

So far, the TORs were a good move, probably should have modified the airbox rather than removing, experimenting with tires brought me back to stock tires. I'm happy with cutting fenders and changing lights, but thats very basic stuff.

Still doubt the need for suspension, especially as I learn about rider position and input to clean up some of the problems. And anything too deep or serious (valves, jugs etc) will come very late. 20k miles is still a very young engine, so I'm waiting until there is a need to go in.

Give it some miles. Its a great design, huge grins, and in 6k/6mos you'll have a much better sense of what you want to do.

Keep reading, excellent posts here. These guys have helped me a lot. Have fun, and get with your local RAT group.

:gpst:

The first thing I had to do was ditch the seat (you already got that covered). Then I figured lower handlebars were in order to go with my new solo seat. But I could hardly wait till my first service to ditch the AI and install new cans. The stock silencers are just that... silent.

FYI: You'll want to have the dealer install an AI removal kit and wipe the pipes down spotless, before you drive her off their lot. Unless you want blue headers on your brand new Bonnie that is.

That's a real individual question you're asking, jhtjon...

Everybody does it differently, from bone stock to heavy mods.

Bought my bike with 234 miles on it and the pipes were already blue. no problem for me as I rather like the look.

It also came with a tach. Never would have bothered to add one myself but find I like it a bunch.

First thing I noticed that bothered me was the brake dive. So I now have Progressive Front Springs on order.

I also don't care for the stock sound but don't want it LOUD, so TORS are on order, too.

Power seems OK to me and my mileage has been in the 45-50 mpg range. Gives the bike a nice range. We'll see if and how the TORS change that and then maybe consider the air box removal. But maybe not.

I also wrestled with how to carry stuff on the bike. Didn;t want to add a rack, not wild about the look of saddle bags on the Bonnie, worried about grit getting under a tank bag and marring the paint and haven;t found a rear seat bag I like as yet.

Bought a black cargo net and use a black small duffel under it on the rear seat. Works just fine for now.

Also considering a Dart Fly screen to cut the wind blast a bit, extended seat bolts and a flip gas cap.

That's my journey so far. Yours will differ. Enjoy!

I am going to be buying the bike at Trebours in Ledgewood, BTW I live in Sussex Co.

TBO I don't mind the blue headers but if they will remove the AI and not void my warranty I might do it.

Here we go again. My advice is similar to Quentin's, except I even have tha AI on my bike. My advice is not popular here, but is well known (and sometimes even tolerated!): Don't do ANYTHING to your bike for several THOUSAND miles. Find out what you bought, for heaven's sake, before changing everything!

Ride it. Make a list. Add and subtract to and from it over time. Then YOU decide. Our advice is worth a lot TO US; --- but maybe not to you. Its your call. Once you decide on a mod, or mods, then you will get some great and useful advice here: Those here who mod really know what they are doing and there were a lot of mistakes made in the beginning that you won't have to make all over again.

Meanwhile, I have only done changes that make the bike more practical for my uses: center stand; Rentec Rack; ClearView custom screen; K&Q seat for touring, and keeping the stock bench for local riding; saddlebag supports and W&M touring saddlebags.

In 11,000 miles I have done NO performance mods. None. It works for me. The bike runs perfectly, better than when new and my total cost for mods is $00.00. I tell you this only because you do not HAVE to modify anything. When you know what you want to modify, do it, and use the good "how to" advice you will find here.

BTW: Welcome home!!
