Hey everyone,
Alright here is my prob. I am working my scrambler a bit and here is what I have got. TOR's, chopped airbox with UNI pods, 2 shims on the scrambler needles , 135 mains, and stock 40 pilots. Great power in the 4500-6000, great off the line, but cruising in the 3500-4000k range yields and annoying surging. Of course this is worse when it is hot outside. I have not had it dynoed, but my changes have all felt like they yielded well. Any suggestions?

Surging during a constant throttle is usually a sign of a lean condition... At least that is my understanding...

Hope that helps...

Yep, sounds lean. Go with a 42 pilot and it should clear up. How many turns out are you on the pilot screw?

I have the screws out 1.5 turns. That is the stock setting on Scramblers. I tried the Jenks advice of blipping the throttle and watching how the idle settles. In its present set up idle drops right back to 1k, no hanging up or dropping below. I might try 42 pilots. Does anyone think another shim might work at this RPM?

I wouldn't put another shim on it, you are probably already rich on the needle. You can try a total of 3-3.5 turns on the pilot to see if it helps, which I'm sure it would. Personally, I would go with the 42. Remember, the carbs work off of throttle position, not rpm.

Greg.

I'll try turning the screws out some more. Should post results from that soon. Thanks for the advice.

My Scrambler has TORs and an airbox removal kit. I had to fight with the mechanic over the 142 Main jet he put in. The bike ran like sh*t when I got it back from him, I made him put in a 150—now it runs great.

Okay, so I am still fighting this thing. Screws are now turned out 3 turns, and things are unchanged. Its almost like someone kicks the bike in the nuts at 4000rpm/60mph/4th gear. I end up dialing in more throttle to maintain the rpm. I have considered fuel flow problem (but I have a new pingel), bad coil (but I think that would be a prob at all rpms) 150 mains seem huge!!!!!!!! Anyone had issues with airflow disturbance in the unipods? I think I am grasping at straws now.
