Hi guys
I thinking of locating the ignition swith to the left side cover, has any one done this, if so, is there enough wire, and could you post picks of what it looks like in the cover.
Cheers

Thrux-ton-up has done it. Check his albums. My memory is that there is NOT enough wire. You will certainly need to unwrap elements of the wiring loom, and then splice in some bits to provide enough length.

I would be unwilling to do this simply because it would now be difficult to take off the sidecover.

I am not sure how hard this would be, I have seen some that have moved them to the steering tree, I have moved mine to the rightside on the bike at the headlamp side.

Thanks for the replies, not sure how or what i will do with it, i've seen a couple of pics with it moved to the handle bar clamps, but i think it makes it look bulky

I put mine in the right side cover. You have to cut the wiring loom to about halfway down the tank to have enough free wire to reach the cover. If I remember, I had to cut a wire and splice it as well. I have the full shop manual with the wiring diagrams, which helped calm any concerns I had about cutting the wrong wire. Much easier to start the bike now, and looks cool as well.

I did this little mod moving it to the right side cover - a few nylon spacers from the hardware store and some longer stainless bolts for mounting are all that is needed. I cut the hole for the switch with a hole saw, drilled the 2 mounts, and then had the cover pained. I had to splice 2 wires (made longer) to get it to reach - although all the rest or the wire will light you move it anywhere you like.

Heres what it looks like after paint.

before painting.

Bonneville Performance has a relocation kit that uses a smaller ignition unit. Go to the website and take a look if you prefer a kit.
