Just what does the rubber snorkle in the airbox do anyway? I was nosing around yesterday and just pulled it out. No change in the operation, but the intake noise is better (read: louder). Will this require a rejet? I can't see how it would change the airflow, since the area of the filter should determine how much air goes into the engine. Am I goofed up? Lemme know.

It stops the gremlins from getting into your airbox, from where they spread to your carbs. and electrical system.I suggest you replace it pronto or you will suffer a life of misery modifying your air induction system and playing with jets.

After looking at mine, running with it out (annoying intake noise), I decided I liked the outer part, so shortened the inside part. It looks like the snorkle does pick up cleaner air. Eventually, I will hook up a leaf blower into the intake to supercharge my bike.

The rubber snorkel regulates the air flow to the carburetors.
Some say it runs better with it removed. My direction was to change the exhaust and re-jet along with pulling the snorkel.

More air and fuel in faster out = more performance.

The biggest change in all around performance was when I installed predators and re-jet from 115 mains to 125. The overall performance gain was unreal.

Just remember that you can never do just one thing. When you remove it you change the design parameters of the air intake flow. In turn that may/may not increase the amount of air flowing in, and/or its turbulance, etc. Most folks who modify air intake flow do it as part of a process to increase total air in and out: ie: freer flowing exhausts to go with the freer flowing intake. That will require a re-jetting and you will be into moding your bike.

I don't bother with that stuff any more but there are plenty of guys here who have done all that and more and can walk you through it.

But really, you can't change just one thing in the combustion system and expect not to have to change something else. Its just the way of the beast.

Good luck,

Monte

I rigged mine up with two small internal mirrors. Now I can look around corners and over tall objects. I think I can also use it to breath underwater if I have to hide out in a marsh.
