I have pod filters that are not K&N, but I usually oil them like K&N's anyway. Should I not be doing this?

If they are Uni-Filters or some other sort of foam filters, they work best with some sort of filter oil. The usual drill is to clean them with a dish soap such as Dawn, allow them to dry, soak them in Air Filter Oil, and wring out the excess.
