I've been changing my oil every ~3,000 miles, but I looked in my Triumph manual at the service intervals and it's listing oil changes every 6,000. What's the scoop? I'm a little over 15,000 right now and I think it's time for a change... or is it?!

I have settled on 5K because it satisfies the manual and is is easy to tell when a change is due. Cars, trucks, bikes everything at my place is on the 5K plan.

I've noticed that around 3000 miles the bike runs noticeably rougher/noisier and shifting gets clunkier, so I've settled into changing the oil then. Even with Mobil 1, I just don't feel comfortable with longer change intervals.

For several years now I have been filling all my bikes with a good semi-syn every 6000 miles. I haven't had a spot of trouble with it. I ride about 15000 miles a year.
I do not ride "hard" but do run it up pretty well into the rev range routinely and ride on the interstates between 70-75 mph, indicated. If you ride really hard I would change it sooner, otherwise follow the manual directions.
(The way some of the guys here SAY they ride I would change it often! :-D )
Every 6000 is fine for me and my bikes.

I too have all my vehicles on the 5k plan. The quality of motor oil is so good, that my vehicles are fine and last a long time with a 5k change.

I do the 5000 too, easy to remember. The most important oil changes are the first two IMHO.

Once a year, easy to remember too. I ride 3000-5000 miles per season, change the oil at end or beginning of season.

Change the oil often, It's cheap enough and is really easy to do on an exposed motor. I by my oil by the case from the distributor so its really cheap, an i buy about 4 filters. As the stuff is there after a long ride I just drop it into a jug and recycle it.

On fully synthetic oil, 6k is sufficient, AS LONG AS, the interval isn't in excess of a year.
If you only put 500 miles a year on your bike then the mileage between oil changes will be 500 miles.
ONCE A YEAR, OR 6000 MILES, WHICHEVER COMES FIRST.

Absolute +1. Synthetic, 6k or so is spot on.
