Freakin' out about dumping mercury into a reservoir at first with all the toxic warnings about inhalation ,skin contact ,ingestion etc. but as soon as I settled down things went okay .warmed the bike up, set RPM's 1500 ,hooked up ,did my adjustments ...reverse..repeat ..reverse..thereafter realized I forgot to switch to vent tube, switched over and had to repeat the whole Re-Production.She was getting mighty hot..RPM's also creeped up on me have to stay at 1500 thought it was screamin' like a bantche looked at the Tach close to 3000 Oh... crikey ....turn it down!Luckily I was paying attention to both the motion Pro Carb Sync and the Tach You don't want to go over 3500 RPM Or you take a risk of sucking it into the engine then breathing it through the exhaust ,meanwhile to keep my machine from meltdown I put up a fan on it even though I did shut off the engine to re-hook up and reverse procedures. It bounces around a little ,had to blip the throttle after each adjustment meanwhile the heads were bright red (just kidding) It settled around 24CM Evenly...Also keeping an eye on my tach and having to adjust that to 1500 a couple of times............Results:Had to get her out to cool off as well Speedy runs like a bat outa' :lgh: I can't sress enough you have to watch that overheating deal it was smellin',Eyeball that tach as well!Point the exhaust out the garage door Too. I'll confess I was a little scared at first about the mercury going through the engine when my RPM's crept to 3000 but you've got at the very most up to 3500 whew!!!!!All is well and she screams down the pike like a streak of....I'll leave that up to your imagination. I'll probably check it in another week anyway (now that I know what I'm doing) Just for the Heck of it...Keep the rubber on the ground. Speed. 8-) Note: now back to the A/F mixture! .....EDIT:071007...Been high 90's here today, been noticing RPM's advancing 100-150 from 1100. Have to keep adjusting it down. Ever since I balanced my carbs and got it extremely hot ,it blued my pipes some. I don't know if it's my imagination but they seem to be bluing a little more. About 3" coming out of the headsthen turning to a goldish hue down to the bend. What's up here? Also this w.e. I'm going to swap my 40 pilot jets for 42's in that case won't I have to back down my mixture screws?

mine does the same thing, pretty much normal. I set my idle to approx 1050

Youll actually have to turn them in. larger pilots will enrichen the idle circuit thus requireing less vacume to pull more fuel thru the jet.

If you swap the pilots from 40s to 42s it will richen the mixture like Erwin says you may have to tweak the mixture screws in a little.
But since you said the pipes are blueing you might be running a little lean anyway (hotter burn). I'd try it for a while with the 42s and the same mixture screw setting.
Your 3T sounds about right for your set up.

You know what Erwin, I think I'm going to freak the bike in which I can still use the 42 pilot jets, just have to get 150-155 mains and a couple more shims (I have on hand also)Then I can back down the mixture screws. I originally wanted to do this right when I got the bike but chose not too,for cautious reasons..wasn't sure...EPA...money...Oh well! I'll save the parts! :hammer:
