I was looking at a new Bonnie T100 (2005) for sale, and the listing had modified the pipes, rejetted the carbs, and lastly removed the air injection system. What's up with the air injection, and why was it removed. Hank

Hank,
The secondary air injection system or AI, is an emission control system. It injects air into the exhaust gasses as they exit to burn any excess fuel. By doing that it also increases the exhaust temp and increases the amount of bluing or discoloration that develops on the single wall chrome headers. It is usually removed to help prevent that effect on the headers. Removing it has no negative effect on the bike, but I'm not sure how removing it would effect the results if you are required to have an emissions test as part of your licensing in your area. Maybe other that have that requirement can tell you. The other stuff, modified pipes may be the stock mufflers have had the baffles removed, to make them a little louder and free flowing and re jetting the carbs is part of that modification. It sounds like basic stuff that just about everyone does to their Bonnie. Otherwise it's probably pretty much stock if that's all they say.
Fred

Thanks LoxPump. I mainly deal with old Triumph's and my newer bike(W650), I have never modified. In addition, I don't really keep up with technology as far as bikes are concerned. I did forget to mention that the owner of the bike seemed to be proud that the modified pipes made the bike extremely loud. So I guess he may have, as you said, removed the air injection to facilitate the new pipes. The bike was registered in Maryland, and they may not have emissions tests on bikes. I live one state away in Virginia and I don't ever remeber having a test, so maybe he was not worried about it. Anyway, thanks for the help. Cheers, hank.

Correct, Maryland does not do emissions tests on motorcycles.
