Finally took the bike in to the dealer to fix a leaking fork seal and ended up needing a new right fork altogether. The good news is Triumph is going to warranty the repair even though the bike is no longer under warranty. Hat's off to both Capitol Area Triumph dealer (and their mechanic) and Triumph Corp. for treating me like I'm #1. :chug:
Oh... and since I rode out there 80 miles in the rain to have the service done while I waited, they gave me a loaner to get my soggy a** home. An 06 Bonnie Black. It was fun to drive an 865 18t in stock trim. Judging from my ride, they're doing it right in Thailand. Very nice scoot.

If it was an 06 model year Bonnie Black, it would still have been a 790cc with 17t made in the UK. The 865cc with 18t wasn't introduced to the Bonnie Black and Standard until the 07 model year. There is some question over whether all Bonnies now reaching the US are built in Thailand, some still appear to be coming from the UK.

Glad to hear about an outstanding experience at a Triumph dealership. With all the negative posts about their dealers, I was beginning to think mine was the only one providing great customer service.

There's a bolt at the very bottom of the fork that threads into a steel insert in the bottom of the cast aluminum fork leg (at least I'm assuming it's cast aluminum). The steel insert broke free and just started spinning. The insert is smooth on the top and despite the mech's best efforts he couldn't find a way to grab hold of it or put enough pressure on it to stop it from spinning. With the insert loose like it was, there was no way to back the bolt out to take the fork apart to get to the seal. Worse yet, he couldn't re-tighten the bolt to at least get it back together short-term. Thus the need for a loaner.
The bolt on the left leg came right out, btw. The mechanic said he'd seen this happen once before and Triumph warranted that one as well.

C.A. is a great little shop - I've always had good experiences there. I've dabbled with the other shops and have found there is no reason to stray... C.A. is smaller, but pays better attention to the customer and the details. The mechanics there make the place - its alway fun talking bikes with Bill.
