Anybody doing the following scenario. Bonneville with saddlebags, decent sized windscreen, luggage rack with backrest and a tailbag on the rear rack, handlebar mounted GPS and last but not least the wifey (5'8" 130 lb?) riding pillion.
Does this work at all or do I need to shop for another bike?
BTW the current bike in the stable (and a keeper) is a speed triple, hence the reason I am wanting some more utility out of the next bike.

We ride 2-up all the time, up state Pa., Maryland., Virgina.,
and all throw New Jersey.
We have a 03 T-100 with K&Q seat, Triumph bags, Tank bag,
Fly Screen, I dislike the road Screen, and Summer screen,
can not take the helmet buffeting, the wind and engine noise.

In a little over a week, my girlfriend and I will do our first full-day ride (approx 500 kms). We will ride my 04 T100 with leather panniers, tank-bag and flyscreen (all Triumph original). No GPS (more fun the old fashioned way).
We intend to do plenty of stops (to see the sights, refuel, and preempt sore butts).
Then, I will ride on alone, for an additional 1000 kms (over two days).
I am not worried about the bike set-up. But rather more about the weather, as riding in the rain is hardly my idea of a good vacation.
Our destination i above the arctic circle, so up there it is possible to ride around the clock without headlights. But sunglasses may be required

Not with the bags, screen, but '06 T100 w/sissy bar and the rest of the bike, stock.
Two-up with wife on the back (I'm 180, she's 130 or so). Long rides 50-100 miles.
Only thing has been running higher revs in 4th gear, when I'd normally be in 5th at a given high speed.
Other than that, a blast.

I just traded in my Honda VTX 1800. The wife and I went out on my Brand new T100 this weekend for a spirited 65 mile jaunt in Hell hot Arizona. She has ridden with me on the VTX and a Harley 1200 Sportster and she said this was the most comfortable, fun ride she has had to date. She was never on a motorcycle before she met me some 7 years ago. She is 50. I weigh in at about 205 and she is about 125. No saddle bags or windscreen but we had a wonderful time and were amazed at the little bikes comfort and suspension. The Harley's suspension se had to upgrade immediately. We were pleasantly surprised!

The big problem I see is the stock seat, its bad even one up.
Watch the weight limit, the stock spokes and rear shocks are wimpy.
I did 9000 miles on a 1979 T140D and thought it was comfortable, no way I could do that on a stock modern bonneville.
I dont buy into the idea you cant enjoy yourself on a long trip without a gold wing or full dress harley slead, I had a blast on the 1979 bonneville, without even sadlebags, i just straped everything on back behind the seat:
Tent (small),
Sleeping bag,
Duffle bag (small),
Tool bag.
Odds and ends went into the tank bag, which is very handy to have, trip tic goes under a clear cover, cash for tolls, camera, walkman, and other things you want to get at easy go in there.
I never had a bike with a windshield, and hope I never need to. Soft saddle bags are ok and very handy, I had them on some of the harleys I had and they sure are handy on trips.

Get a tank bag like Brett suggests, it's one of the best investments I ever made.
Me and my girl off the time.
Did London UK via Europe to Southern Italy.
9 Countries, 3500 miles, 13 days, average highway speed 85 mph.
Standard 790cc T100 with the exception of TOR's.
Accessories, OEM, Summer screen, Tank bag, high sissy bar, Leather Pannier kit.
Plus Leather Harley tool roll, straps shortened and cable tied
to sissy bar to keep it off the rear light and enable me to bunji gear on top of it like a rack.
We used local family guest houses which were inexpensive, that way we got to shower, breakfast and sleep in comfort every night, with the luxury of not having to carry camping gear.
Which we have done on shorter trips of say only 1000 miles eg Tent, 2 sleeping bags air beds pump etc.
I'm 5'7" my ol' lady of the time was 6'1".
You could hardly see the bike and her knees were nearer to the knee pads than mine, but hell we got round easy enough and I had a warm dry back...lol

TB,
whats your destination? I'm currently residing just a few miles south of the arctic circle. Will go for a trip to Tromsø with the spouse in a few weeks.
I'll look out for a T100, not too many of those around here...

Hei
Going to Lofoten (Ramberg), via Kystriksveien on the way up, and probably the E6 on the way down. When is your trip?

going to attend the Bukta festival 19-21. Planning to take Hurtigruten one way,and ride Senja, Vesterålen,Lofoten on the way home.
Here's a nice place to stay and eat , a 10km detour from RV17. And where my bike is parked right now while i'm staying on a small island nearby.
