Anyone ever get any slight oil seepage out of the cylinder head gasket on a 2004 Bonnie?

you're thinking cam cover gasket (not cylinder head), and yes it is very common.

Thanks for the clarification! Do I need to do anything right away or worry about it?

Common? I thought these new Bonnies weren't supposed to leak...

HalfPipe,

Depends on how serious the leak is. I've dealt with this issue a couple of times (as have many on this board) and I think you should just keep an eye on the sight glass. If the level gets too low (or if the seepage increases) I would go ahead and re-install the gasket. IMPORTANT: Use a torque wrench for the cam cover bolts! (10 nms)

Some folks use RTV on the gasket to get a better seal. I replaced mine with a new gasket, no RTV, and it's holding up just fine.

The oil leak you have is nothing to be worried about - usually an easy fix (often a bad gasket or lose cam cover bolts) and covered by the warranty. Keep an eye on the oil level, though the leak is probably that minute that you won't see a measurable oil loss in the sight glass.

Good to see a fellow snowboard instructor on this forum!

Mine weeped a bit from new - discovered the cam cover bolts were only finger tight. Tweaked them up a bit and never had a leak since.

I wasn't listening to the dealership I was reading the responses and posts on the forums here.. You know, great classic style but none of the annoying oil leaks! Modern technology, etc, etc.

Maybe this forum is full of Triumph salesmen, huh?

I've got a HD up for sale but maybe I should reconsider? No oil leaks experienced in 7 years of owning 2 HD's.

Thanks all for the info. Glad to know it would be a warranty issue if it comes to that. I check the oil level in the glass regularly anyway.

By the way, '05 Truxter, where do you teach? I'm up in Okemo, VT.
