Just read on one of the posts that fork oil and brake fluid should be changed once a year. Seems a bit excessive to me. My dad owns a 72' BMW and guarantee that he doesn't remember the last time it was changed.

I changed mine after a year, and the brakes were noticeably better.

I'm not honestly sure what they say in the owners manual, but on my other bikes it was every two years. However, I won't wait that long on the brakes. Once you install a speed bleeder, bleeding the brakes and getting all new fluid in there is cake. I would agree with once a year on the brake fluid, if only because we use DOT4 which is pretty hydroscopic and also because many on here have reported a nice improvement in brakes just from running new fluid.

I think I did go two years on my fork oil, and admittedly, it was dirty.

The manual says every 2 years for brake fluid and 24,000 miles or 4 years (whichever is first) for the fork oil. That works for me.

Brake fluid can go longer, but why not get the dirty stuff out and clean stuff in?

The fork oil is another issue altogether. I believe it should be checked for proper level as early as the 500 mile service...there have been too many that have about half as much oil in one fork as the other--mine included. Checking the level is not the easiest thing to do, so many do not bother. The oil in one fork was black (the one with half as much oil as it should have had) and the oil in the other looked like new oil. Once you go to the trouble to remove the forks to check the oil levels, it is a good time to change the springs and the oil--you'll be glad you did. :-D

I'll be removing my forks, replacing the oil, installing new springs, and installing gaiters sometime this season, when I have a free day and it's not too warm.

This would be a fork oil change after almost three years of riding, and I'm looking forward to improved performance.

I'll do something with the brake fluid next year, might install a nice blue brake line at that time. What I can see in the sight glass looks very clean, but maybe that's because it's the reservoir.

Once a year for either of these seems more trouble than it's worth.
