Using the basic premise of shortening the stalks of stock lights found on the Wiki site, I altered that procedure.
Removed the entire light housing and rubber mounts. The wires slid through the mount easily with the plastic terminal covers removed.
Removed 1 and 1/2 inches from stalk. [NOTE! THE KEY DOES NOT FIT IN EASILY WITH LIGHT MOVED IN THAT MUCH. I solved this by removing the spiffy plastic Triumph cover.]
Cut the rubber piece so that 3/4 of an inch was left to slide into stalk.
Put rubber piece upright in a vise. I used the light mounting nut, threaded on, to hold secure.
Trimmed the 3/4 inch to reduce overall diameter to fit into stalk. Basically, with the "ribs" gone it will fit tightly, which is desired. I trimmed carefully so that I did not remove too much. I checked using the stalk as I went. In the end, the stalk fit on tightly, with downward pressure and twisting slightly to an fro.
Put the metal tab in a vise and filed the tab that goes into the rubber piece. Unlike the Wiki site, I did not eliminate the tab all together. I left about a 16th and did not deburr, thinking the sharp edge would dig into the rubber
Drilled a 3/16th hole into the rubber to reinstall the tab. Put the tab in a vise and pushed the rubber onto it, then oriented the threaded part correctly. With the tab extended about 3/8' from the rubber will get it to about where I needed to put on lens.
For the rear lights, I removed the whole light from the rear fender - no easy way to remove turn signal without doing this. Also, I needed to remove the three screws holding the brake light to the plate bracket as well to access the nuts for the indicators.
Lastly, I used blue loctite on the nuts for the rear assembly because if they loosen up, well, you'd have to remove the assembly to tighten them.
I really like the look, as the stockers were just too long. Admittedly, the customs available are nicer, but I need to watch my money outlay for the bike - to say the missus is "thrifty' is an understatement.
