After getting some great advice from this forum, I checked my plugs and it seems that the bike is running a bit rich (but it only appeared on one of the plugs)

So, I ordered the infamous "D" shaped tool. Now I just need to figure out where to use it. Where exactly is the fuel/air mixture screw?

Thanks.

on the bottom of the carbs (on the bottom of the float bowls) about dead center, just behind the 2 wires for the carb heaters. Just stick it in! It's the only hole it fits into.

The D tool goes right where the brass knurled knob is on this photo. This is NewBonneville's replacement idle mix screws a with knob so no tool is needed. The LH idle mix screw is in exactly the same place on the LH carb:

as deb said.Bear in mind that the D screws ONLY affect the idle circuit mix,IE closed throttle .

Now, my understanding is that I will need to back it off about 1/4 turn. I assume this is on the Cyl that is running rich, right?

I am running no snorkel or restricter plate, Unifilter, Thruxton pipes with a baffelectomy and a 1 1/4 inch hole drilled in the plate. Jets were just changed to 125/42 with stock needles and no shims (I believe). The shop took care of the rejetting.

I notice that there is a slight hesitation on take off. It runs like a scalded dog when I really roll on the throttle.

Any advice is appreciated.

You may have it backwards...backing off to me means unscrewing a right-handed screw and that will make the pilot mixture richer. Tightening the screw will make the mixture leaner. With the 42 pilot jets, I would turn both pilot screws in until they bottom and then turn em out one turn and see how it runs. I really believe with your setup on a 790, you would be better off with the stock 40 pilot jets.
