For no particular reason other than looks I decided to yank the chainguard this weekend.

Any reason I'd want to put this thing back on? I have to say I like the look of the exposed rear sprocket - especially since I cleaned it up.

What sayeth thou?

I'd say if you like the look keep it off. I'm assuming it's main purpose is to keep chain lube from flying all over but with the new non-fling stuff that's not an issue. But lets see a pic.

The main purpose is to keep anything from being grabbed by the chain. Things like your pants, shoe laces, etc.....

More important for your backseat rider, but in a crash who knows what might get caught.

Ditto on Loxpump; keep it that way if it pleases the eye. I had no guard for years on a past bike [the mounting tab welds broke] and it caused me no problems until I went for state inspection; I failed inspection. That too was no problem because I quit going.

On the 2007 1050 Tiger, Triumph saw fit to short change us on the chain guard--it stops 3" short of the rear of the sprocket. We are getting a lot of rain lately and the chain throws the rain, mud, etc. upward onto everything. Personally, I would not consider riding without a chain guard for the above reason...as soon as I can find the right parts, I am extending the Tiger chainguard.

Liked the look of my speedy better without too. The road water thrown up by the chain doesn't make as much mess as the crud thrown up by the tires.

Bert's work was no small reason I removed the guard. I'm green with envy, I'll admit it.
