Can anyone help me with a problem that occurred after having the AI modded, re-jet done, and short TOR'S fitted.
I had this work done about 6 weeks ago and the TOR's were posted down I fitted them and suffered an injury that meant that I couldn't ride my bike. Today I took the speedy for a spin. It is cold at the moment and after starting I let her idle for a minute or so. All was well until I went to open her up a few hundred meters from home and the bike accelerated then dropped off then repeated this until I dropped the throttle off. Trying again I eased the throttle on with no issues. Back down the gears and a quick twist of the wrist saw the same problem occurring. I rode out of town and about 6 k's, or 4 miles, later I gave a quick twist of the throttle and there seemed to be no problem. Is it possible that the bike was not warmed up enough and was flooding then when throttled down was catching up on the unburned fuel? The bike has sat for about 3 weeks without starting so could it have been a stale fuel problem? Any help would be appreciated.

One thought, assuming it ran good before, is to get a bottle of "seafoam" and add it to the gas and run a tankful thru. If it a gummed up carb that should clean it out. If it was fine before the sit i would think thats likely what it is. Seafoam is a well regarded product and is available at some auto parts stores here in the U.S. I believe i got it at auto zone, tho not sure where you'd find it in AU.

Sounds like it was not warmed up. If it does this after about 20 minutes of riding then you may want to check it out.

I have had the same problem and I have the long TORs installed. You didn't say if your choke was on when the surging started. If your choke was off, I'd say the engine was too cold. You might have to run with your choke partly on to get good driveability when cold. That's what I have to do.

Yeah, they're right. I'm sorry, but i skimmed the post and didn't realize you meant when cold. They run like that often till they're warmed up, especially if the choke isn't out enough or you push it in too soon.

I've done basically all that to my 05 Speedy.Yes if it is cold it will not run good. I usually start it up with the choke on and let it warm up for awhile in the winter. Temps get down into the low 20's farenheit that is. I usually put on all my gear before I take off that lets her warm up good.Summer ,most of the time no choke is needed.Temps in the morning from the 75F to 110F in the morning and it can and does go up from there-freaking hot that is.It is BETTER to let it warm up before you get on it hard. It's easier on the life of the engine. :knkknk:

Thanks
I thought it might be a warm up problem. It is good to find out that it is a known problem though and not just a one off for my bike.
