So I am about to pull the trigger on new rear shocks and am seeking some advice from those who have gone before me in this quest.

I was about to bite the bullet and get the Ohlin 36PL's even though they are on the spendy side at $750 a pair. I was a bit hesitant since they do not have rebound adjustment. To get a better idea I contacted Ohlin and they recomended the 36DRL at $900 or the KA149 at $1275. Okay so I was shy to spend $750 and ... well I just cannot bring myself to spend $1300 on shocks!

I love the way the 36PL's look, gold ano, piggy back res and all but am not going to select a shock on looks.

I am 145# and am looking for a good performance shock for twisty roads. I rarely but occasionally will ride 2 up.

Bring it on, I am eager to see your recomendations!!!!

Thanks in advance.

Tad

Tad,

With high-end shocks, adjust-ability is the hallmark feature. Things like:
-Threaded Spring Preload
-Adjustable Damping, preferably separate compression & rebound
-Adjustable length

[insert blatant sales-pitch here]

I've been selling the YSS shocks now for the last few weeks (yeah I know, get them up on the site). I installed a set of G366TRC piggybacks ($830pr.) on a Standard Bonnie and right out of the box, they were set-up almost idea for me. I've played with the rebound (20 clicks!) & compression damping (60 clicks!!!) and now they're too springy. Lesson: more adjustabilty can potentially get you "lost" on set-up. Obviously I can return to the base settings and/or experiment with other settings until I get exactly what I'm looking for. That of course is half the fun. :-D

/Mike

From the YSS web site:

1983 The factory was originally established in Pradpradaeng,Thailand.
1988 Because of increasing demand for shock absorbers in Thailand, we searched for a new site and expanded the company by moving to Bangplee Industrial Estate in Samutprakarn, Thailand, and jointed venture with
foreigner investors.
1995 The company was completely restructured to be 100% Thai shareholder and reengineering all management and quality system.
2001 YSS (Thailand) Co. Ltd. achieved QS 9000 and ISO 9002 Certification from TÜV Rhineland Germany.
2005 Mr.Walter Preisig, who has more than 20 years experience in shock absorber industie and development in Australia, joined YSS as R&D Technician to develop the new generation of shocks absorber. Later in the same year, Mr. Harry Essen from Holland, the former owner of Technoflex, know as “Father of High — Low Speed” has joined YSS as R&D manager.
2006 We achieved ISO/TS 16949 Certification from TÜV Rhineland Germany.

The modern factory, has excellent testing machines, well trained people, good R&D team and world class quality system, YSS is able to offer you the world class shock absorber. YSS is now working on a range of suspension products for the world market.

By research and development in European Base, Australian Base and Thailand Base, YSS is the name to remember when you are looking for World class suspension
