Got just over 1.1k miles and the back brake is squeaking. This started after her first big washing so may just need to work it out. Talked to the dealer and they said the brakes had a tendency to get squeaky after they got wet. So something I have to deal with or a simple change of pads can cure? I'll try using brake cleaner on the pads and disc, but sheesh - it's a british bike - it should handle a bit of liquid sunshine, yes?!

In all probability you need... guess what... brake grease.
This stuff does NOT go on the friction surface of the pad that contacts the disc. Rather, it is applied to any of the other surfaces that may contact each other, especially the tin clips that hold tension to the pads.
When you brake, all of these things vibrate and so make noise. The grease quiets this. It is available in tiny packages in any auto parts store. I don't know if you have to completely remove the from the calipers to apply it, but I would think you do. You certainly need to remove the calipers from the bike. If you are not comfortable with this, see a mechanic.
Lets be clear one more time - you never put any substance on the face of the pad or the disc itself.
I suspect your washing removed the little grease that was there.

Mine don't squeal when wet. They do a little when they are hot, like in stop and go traffic but it clears up when they cool down.

I hope a little washing wouldn't wash away the brake grease. In fact I didn't really hit underneath there with much of anything. And haven't ridden in the rain yet...since the braking's fine if it keeps up I'll just take it back to the dealer and have them take a look. Warranty's gotta be good for something  .

i actually got told its a build up of matter that become acidic, and a spray of water should wash it out and stop the squeak.. go figure.

Heres my theory.
Brake pads are soft.
Brake disc's are hard.
When cold water hits the hot brake pads it hardens the surface.
A couple of hard brake applications should remove the hardened surface.
