From what I've heard, don't lock it; it may stay that way.

Some have had problems with sticky, hard to turn locks.
Mine now works smoothly, though it was tough to turn the first few times. I use the lock so frequently, and so easily, that the procedure requires no thought.

So, the way I think I'm doing it:
Turn handlebars to left.
Insert key, push the key in, turn the key towards the tank.
Lock should remain depressed and handlbars won't move.

To unlock:
Key in, turn away from tank.
Lock springs out and remove the key.

Hope that's helpful.

Took a walk to the parking lot, just to check my foggy (at times) memory:

Key in, turn towards tank, depress, turn away from tank, remove key.
Lock stays depressed.

Unlocking is: key in, turn towards tank and lock springs back.

My fork lock was stiff at first but now works perfectly. The mechanism has worked more smoothly the more I use it. I just followed the instructions in the manual. The key for me seems to be slowly turning the wheel to the left at the same time I'm gradually turning and depressing the fork lock.

Other Motorcycle: Unfortunately not

I use mine all the time (together with a brake disk lock). No problems. But it does require the handle to be slightly towards the center (ie not ALL the way to the left).

You chaps who advise to stay away from it: Why?

Just because it is no fun sitting in a parking lot for an hour trying to get the thing unlocked. NOTHING I do with mine makes it work right, and I have tried all the recommendations, plus some I thought up. After forever I get it to unlock. Next time? Who knows? Life is just too short to mess with it.

It appears from the threads over the years that they either work easily or they are a bear to unlock. If yours works fine, great. If not, forget it.

Monte

PS: Mark, you are a PATIENT man. I can't imagine working two years on that sucker! :-D
