I will be watching this one to see what folks say. I don't care for the football grips personally, I am using the Grab On foam grips. I used them back in the day as they were the coolest thing and still like them. Seems they may reduce some vibes.

Found some fantastic grips at the dealer (they're checkered like a gun stock) but they're not made for 1" bars (yet)
but if you have 7/8 bars that's the way to go.
I have brown leather bags and tank bag so I made some brown leather wraps for my T-100.
Gave me just right feel and the extra diameter I need for my arthritic paws.

luckily HD's have the same bar diameter. There are plenty of grip options out there. It is up to you for preference.

not exactly the same as football grips, I bought new old stock Beston grips, with the inner air chamber. They do have the football shape, so may not be for everyone, but I like them. They have the horizontal 2 by 2 raised ribs

Have anybody looked at the grips used on the newer upper scale bicycles. There eco correct and leather covered. Very comfortable.

I got a pair of "football" retro grips from bellacourse. They are better than the stock grips, but not as soft as I had hoped. They do have a nice "grip". One thing you should know, have a razorknife handy, there are small tangs on the throttle sleeve that have to be cut off to use other grips. I have the kuryakin iso grips on my harley and they feel great, like little pillows of rubber under my hands. I don't think I would like the appearance on my Bonneville, though.
You should look at tucker rocky or similar hd supplier online to see lots of stuff.
