I just finished fitting the lay-flat bracket on my bike - I like it! A lot! I bought the black one, and with the black gauge faces, it looks much better - seems to blend in with that area of the bike. I did not need to put a hole in the housing for the blinker-etc. lights. I simply extended the slotted wire harness cutout by about 1/8 of an inch. Only two items needed to be done which were not in Seth's instructions [maybe I did not see them or they are no brainers].To get the gauges free of the old bracket, I needed to remove the tach wires and the trip meter reset knob - don't drop that screw!!!. I did but luckily found it.

The bracket gives the bike a lower profile, especially when combined with bar end mirrors. I think it would look best with M or drag bars, but I don't think I'd like that position for all around riding. The readability of the gauges is good as well.

If your aim is to reduce your bike's profile, this is a modification I think you'll like.

[Alas, I am not too good with digital cameras and thoroughly clueless with getting photos in the computer. I will learn this and post some pics.]

It's not fair to describe what I'm sure is an awesome looking bike without a picture!

Did the cups for the guages have to be modified? It looks like if they were to be dropped down flat, that they would be sitting on the headlight.

Jcline8, the cups were left intact. The spacers provided keeps the acorn nuts off the headlamp shell - by a small margin but enough. I did notice today, however, that the visibility of the idiot lights during daylight is reduced. I know some Ratsters don't like that the lights are hard to see in daylight in a regular bracket, so that is a consideration.

Oh, the piece is not exactly flat, as in parallel to the ground because of the angle of the frame for the "rake", I think its called.

davidc,

Thanks for the info. That answered my questions. Now I just hope that D9 has some left.

My error - the bracket IS flat but when mounted is at a slight angle. I apologize if I misrepresented D9's careful engineering efforts!

If he doesn't, just wait a couple months and I'm sure he'll come up with seven or eight new versions. I've never seen so much energy devoted to a single feature of a bike. :-D
