I've got an idea but would like to know for sure. What is it that you guys refer to as the snorkel?

Tookmine off - got some more top end from her. Cut off the tip &replaced t o se what happenned. Ran ok but lost that little extra before the limiter cuts in. Gonna take the tip off & leave open again. There was a noticable difference w/ the smaller opening. I could use a higher rev limitre, but she really did have a last burst of git before the limiter cut in w/o any part of the snork. I will fabricate something & get a higher limiter. The 790 really starts to go when the limiter says STOP! I have heard she will do another 1k RPM noproblem. :hammer:

If you're going to remove the snorkel, you may want to get something to smooth out the airflow into the filter, and make sure you have a washable aftermarket filter. The options for smoothing the airflow are (1) Jenks rubber bellmouth (2) Norman Hyde Bellmouth and (3) Jenks aluminium velocity stack/bellmouth. I have a K&N filter and the Jenks aluminium bit. Here's a photo of it to show you where the snorkel is (or was). You still need to have the side covers on.

So you can't just remove it and not replace it with one of those 'bellmouth' things or have I just confused myself?

You can just remove it but it's better with the belmouth.

So you got your bike from the dealer yet.?

The easiest way to help you is if we meet up somewhere, I've got all these mods on my bike and can simply show you.

So a Sunny day soon at the Wesson's Cafe beckons.

The bellmouth looks keen, but doesn't actually do anything. Once you take the snorkle out, the hole is so big that "smoothing the flow" isn't significant. (Okay, I have one anyway).

Hi Jon

Yes a meet up would be good - how about next saturday weather permitting?

I've had my bike back and they put in warranty claims on the corroded gear box / engine covers and a warped front disk which have been approved (good old triumph!) and they are getting done next Thursday. So should be all good to go come Friday!
