I was reading a Cycle World review of the 2007 America on the web:
http://www.cycleworld.com/article.as...article_id=349
At the end of the article there are several pictures that when clicked and viewed have captions. The caption for the carbs state that Triumph is phasing out carbs in 2008. Anyone know anything about this and how do you think the performance will change? Pros/Cons? I ask because I expect to buy a Speedmaster within the next couple of months so I'm wondering should I get a 2007 or maybe wait to see what the 2008 is like.

There have been other posts in the twins forum. And there are a couple people who've seen them during the factory tour, so it is indeed true. The 08's have EFI that are built to resemble carbs, and the tanks will be changed to a thinner profile is what was mentioned by someone who saw the 08 during the tour. We should see them fairly soon. the new models usually debut in september, tho not available till january.
As to performance, no one knows, but it's been said that EFI may or may not offer any increase in performance aside from the better startup and metering to account for altitude and all that. But as far as HP/torque, people can only speculate. I asked the same question to and thats what i got from the replies. All we can do is wait and see.

inc, I feel the same way. I don't know too much about EFI - how to tweak it, and such - I'm much more like the idea of goofing with the jets, intake and exhaust and all that, getting things just the way I want it. Can a guy "tune" injection?

Are you kiddin?! You can tune em easier than carbs, not to mention you can tune them in many more ways ! They're infinately tunable compared to carbs. It's basically like writing software that you install into the computer. You just need a device like a "Tune-boy" or such to do it.

And the probability of many more sensors. A code scanner? I wonder what the throttle body will look like.

When riding out here in Arizona sometimes you can change in elevation up to 6000-7000 feet. With carburators performance really drops at the higher elevations. It gets annoying. Of course there are always pros and cons to everything. Nothing is perfect.

Someone here said that Triumph EFI has been recognized as one of the best EFI systems on any bike. So it may in fact be a all around improvement with no downside. Sure hope so.

I'd guess the only drawback would be cost. Up front, and down the road for tuning. Its a lot easier to jet a carb than write software to flash and modify an ECU.
Any good code disassemblers here?

The downside of EFI is it has a CPU on-board which tells the dealer/company anything they want to know about your riding habits: the average length of your rides, the medium length of your rides, what speed/gears and for how long, mpg, weight on bike, air pressure at any given time and the worst one, how many times is the bike is sitting stationary with more than one person on it and the suspension is compressed and unloaded, compressed and unloaded, faster and faster and then it stops..................LOL. Just kidding, it's not a H-D. :???:
