I have just received a set of Bullet Bolts to use instead of the stock seat bolts. Hopefully these will be a practical and stylish alternative to the very hard to get at stock bolts. However, they are substantially heavier outside of the threaded area (which ofcourse is the main point) - something that may increase the likelyhood that they shake loose. It would be sad to loose them just because of that.

Therefore my question is: Is it a good or not so good idea to use lock-washers when using non stock seat bolts (ie Bullet bolts, or Tool Free bolts)?

I put extended seat bolts on my Bonnie about 6 months ago and they have never come loose, and did not use lock washers. When I took the seat off last week to install trickel charger wires they were as tight as when I first put them on. :-D

My $27 stainless steel seat bolt extensions fell out within the first 100 miles. (So that explains that "tinkling" noise I heard behind me!) Hand-tightening wasn't adequate, in my case and I didn't have them long enough to miss them.

I have lock washers on mine, but I haven't really been tightening the bolts with my hand enough to squash them anyway. Couldn't hurt IMO.

Mine came with a split washer for each from New Bonneville. Haven't come loose without the help of my hand. My 100 came with the wrong bolts in so I couldn't use the supplied tool, therefore this was something that changed straight away for me.

I just lost one (after two seasons), and I tighten them (gently) with a screwdriver! Back to the stock screws until my next NB order. BTW, Brent will sell you one if you ask.

I'll use lockwashers when I use them again. The screwdriver should mash them down enough, but remember they're pusing against soft plastic tabs on the seat.

I bought the NB seatbolts and use lock washers - no problems.

I just put my new Bullet bolts (from MotoTwin) on, with lockwashers. Tighten them down and hope for the best.

Blue Loctite does the trick also.

I use the stock bolts with lock washers and also a larger washer to spread the load against the seat. Always tight. Carry an Allen wrench and no issues.
