Okay I have my Bonnie black and she is the girl of my dreams. I opted for the Chrome engine kit on mine and so therefore I have a Metric Ass Load of chrome to care for and polish. That being said any of you guys have recomendations other than cleaning? I am fairly religious about getting up every saturday morning and washing my bike carefully and waxing at least once every 2-3 weeks. I just need to know if there is a commercial preservative for my chrome? or is it just good old fashioned elbow grease and regular cleaning?

cheers!™

I use never dull on my pipes whenever I think about it and am cleaning my bike. It works pretty good and keeps the shiny parts all sparkly! And, as an added bonus it's pretty idiot proof and doesn't require alot of work.

Consider this odd advice from someone who keeps the inside of her house, car, and studio immaculate: wash your bike less. After having a T100 for two years plus, my frequency of washing has declined significantly as I have begun to see unnecessary water exposure as something to avoid. I clean the bike after every ride with Griot's Garage Speed Shine and a micro fiber cloth, removing bugs, tar, dust, grime. There are several good products like it; I just prefer this brand. Keeping it clean is made easier by polishing and waxing three times a year with GG products. I probably polish and wax the tank more often. When I do wash, I use Meguiars Car Wash instead of dish detergent, which takes the wax off with the dirt. I use a very gentle spray of water to rinse. I have become increasingly concerned about the frequent use of chrome polish, and instead prefer to just keep the chrome covers clean and Speed Shined. I occasionally get out one or another of the top rated chrome polishes and polish one silencer. I cannot tell the difference between the one I polished and the other. My chrome looks the same as it did when I got the bike in March 2005, and I honestly have not spent much time at all polishing. My guess is that you'll spend more time taking care of the black paint than the chrome.

As a successful Custom bike finisher in the 80's I always just put WD40 on an old t shirt and wipe it over my chrome.
Then just repeat the process with good old household furniture polish.

The WD40 repels water and the furniture polish is non abrasive.

Never use anything like Solvo Autosol or similar products on chrome, it scratches it, tarnishes it, this eventually causes pitting and flaking.

My 2003 T100 Chrome is still immaculate including the (rocker box cover. Sorry old habits die hard.) cam case cover.

Remember abrasion is death to chrome.

WD40 will dissolve road grunge and clean the cases, furniture polish (or my lovely Speed Shine) will provide some protection. Neither will abrade. You only need to polish metals that corrode or oxidize (tarnish), neither of which should happen with the cases. I work with copper. I only use polish when I want to abrade the surface. I use NeverDulz when I need to remove tarnish and polish lightly, and if all I need to do is remove tarnish, I use vinegar and salt water. On clean chrome, all you need is some protection.

Yes that is the heart of my question... Is there a product for Protection and preservation.. like waxing the paint job... is there something to preserve the sealent over the chrome and prevent corrosion?

Cheers!™

I have the exact bike as you & love it!! The (extra chrome) you & I put on it is very hardy & easy to maintain. A good quality polish that keeps the water away is all necessary. As said - I dry clean my bike. I also try to avoid any unecessary moisture! The only chrome you gotta be concerned about is the factory *****. I gotta wipe/ polish my carb tops etc weekly & there is still some spottyrust. Neverdull is the way t okeep up w/ thw crappy stock chrome. Does the rims (not great either) well also. I wish Triumph had put a little more effort in their chrome ! Even the fender supports pit up really fast! Its a weekly routine t ostay ahead of the chrome degradation. The plastic chrome isnt even that good?
I wonder if the chrome on the Thailand Bonne's is holding up any better?? I guess when it starts to look an "OLD BONNEVILLE" I will strip it down & rechrome & paint . There was a Honda tha sat out in the rain here @ the condo. It was never covered for a year. It never had a spot of rust on it? O well Gotta take the good w/ tjhe bad??

I hate to say this but Honda spray Polish works great to maintain your bike once you have it back up to snuff.
Use it every thing including aircraft.
