Several riders have complained recently about the ineffectiveness of the search function on the RatNet, so I thought I'd offer some suggestions for searching on the RatNet.
1. Go immediately to the Advanced Search. On the Twin Talk, Hangout, Vertical Twin Cruisers, or Bonnie Owners Forum opening pages, you will find this at the bottom of the page, in red. Ignore the basic search. It's too inclusive to be helpful;
2. Once at the Advanced Search, type in key words and then click on "Find ALL the words." Again, you're trying to narrow it down. If you type in Triumph solo seat and let it search for ANY of the words, you will get a deluge of things related to Triumph, solo anything, and seat anything. Same thing for Brand X product Y. With ANY word selected (which unfortunately is the default) you will get everything from Brand X and everything from every brand of product Y. At a certain point the search will cut you off, likely before you get to what you want to find;
3. Then scroll down the menu and tell it to search in the forum where you think you're most likely to hit paydirt, IMO, the Bonnie Owners Forum is always my first choice, followed by Vertical Twins Hangout, as sometimes tech stuff comes up there. If you don't tell it which forum to search, again, you get too many hits, most of them not relevant to your bike.

Using these three methods, Ive done numerous searches and actually found the info I wanted. You can always go back and change the key words and/or the specific forum searched. If you get very little with "Spiegler brake lines T100" you may be narrowing it down too much, so simplify it to "Spiegler brake lines." If you know something was posted and can't remember the forum, try the most likely one first and then keep trying other likely places. Believe me, the search function works, it's just a little like learning to start the bike: the right amount of choke, no throttle, and she's purring.
