Once you get them set turn off the motor and switch the lines. Even though I had it set perfectly once I switched they were off again. I don't know why yet... lines are the same length.

Could this be a problem with your carbstix instrument itself?

Would out of sync carbs make a motor pop on deceleration?
I put on TORS with the jet kit supplied, removed the AI and it ran GREAT for 1000 miles. Yesterday, it started popping quite a bit approaching red lights and it NEVER popped before. I'm almost thru the tank of gas (91 always) so next top up I;ll get rid of that variable but should I look at any other area? Thanks in advance.

King,
Sounds like you have lost a vacuum cap off one of the nipples--check the one you put on with the AI removal kit...I found them to be inferior to the stock caps and mine came off in less than a 1000 miles. I recommend buying some good ones from a Triumph dealer and keeping a couple of spares with you. The ones I bought from an auto parts store cracked in less than 500 miles.

These new fancy Japanese carbs that leave me a bit purplexed.
"Adjust the screw on the linkage between the two carbs until the levels are equal."
Which screw is this exactly?
This is how I (used) do it.
Pull a plug wire
Raise the idle until she runs on one cylinder
Adjust mix screw until finding optimum RPM
Drop idle until she stops running
Do the same for the second cylinder
Plug in both plug wires and set idle speed (should be a little high before adjustment)
Finally, sync the carbs with a stick which adjusts the pull of the slides equally, and takes care of any minor differences between material diffs (effecting vaccum) between the carbs.

Rear Shock Torque speck is 27Nm and as a precaution alittle blue locktite on the threads isn't a bad idea.

unitedrocker,
You are talking 2 different procedures--1. setting the pilot (idle or low speed) mixture screws...2. balancing the carbs--adjusting the throttle cable so the slides open at the same time and the same amount. You really need to get a manual before you balance the carbs, IMHO.
The screw for adjusting the balance between the carb slides is above and between the carbs--follow the throttle cable to it. It is not easy to get to with my old hands. :-D I have read where some have raised the rear of the fuel tank by putting a block of wood under it to give em more room to get their phillips screwdriver and hands in there to do the adjustment. I have found that the adjustment screw is very sensitive--it takes very little movement to cause a change in the balance on my CarbTune II carb balancing tool.
It is not recommended that you pull one plug wire and run the engine on a wasted spark engine that uses only one coil to fire both plugs (can cause coil damage). If you use that procedure, I would suggest using a spare spark plug plugged into the removed wire with the plug grounded to the motor so the ignition system components are not damaged.

The mixture screw and pilot jets (one controls air and fuel mix, and the other controls fuel delivery amounts at low RPM) are different adjustments, but I get ya.
All you need to know -
Carb Sync Ritual
NICE and visual communication is always better. No need for a manual when you have people who actually wrench on their bikes to add assistance. :-D
I'll get one anyway...

I just synched mine using the mercury carb sticks, man what a difference in performance and sound! The whole process took me less than 5 minutes.
