so im pretty new to motorcycling, well riding them anyway. i never got one as a kid because i knew i wasnt mature enough to not hurt myself on one. im 24 now and felt like i could handle riding one safely so i brought a scrambler. i would have gotten a starter bike but thats not my style

so anyway, ive been teaching myself to ride and doing pretty good at it. i havent crashed i can get through all the gears and such, the slow speed stuff im still working on and ill get it down. the only problem ive had so far is the DAM cars around here are completely out of control. its effed up

i never noticed how bad people drive till i was on a bike.

short story, i was riding back to my apt. the other night hit a stop light, it turns green and started off at normal speed, but apparently not fast enough for the rich ahole behind me who felt that he had to blow by me across the double line and clip me with his mirror as he went by, all this to get to a stop like 30 yards in front of us ha. ive had a few other incidents too mostly just impatient people

thats my story, sorry if it was long i just kind of wanted to vent

take the MSF class if you haven't already. It's good for a new rider, and experienced ones as well.

Yes, take that course!!! It could save your bike - and you along with it! I have done little city riding, but I know I don't like it, especially on an 865cc bike. Good luck and be careful!

I agree...Take the MSF... After that you will realize that driving in the city is rad. It keeps you on your toes. Swerving in and out of cars while listening to the Pouges is as good as it gets.
So here is what I recommend. By an Ipod and down load Ruining in the Streets by the Circle Jerks. Turn it up so loud that you are basically going deaf and then ride through the city. It will be the most Glorious thing you have ever done!!!

I've been to Boston once. As I remember, everyone acted just like you describe them driving - whether they were in a car or not!

I am a new rider as well. I took the course prior to buying my bike in March and I can't tell you how invaluable it has been. Highly recommended. Plus, you can expect a significant savings on your insurance. The course pays for itself over about two years.

Cheers!

I took the MSF Class when I got back into riding about 10 years ago, it was invaluable, I learned to handle a bike with a lot more confidence. It really helps!

I agree that you really find out a lot about people when you are on a bike, you'll run in to people as you described and worse, the key is to learn to spot the @#%holes and stear clear of them.

I was almost sideswiped on the freeway here in LA the other day, I'm signaling looking right and moving over lanes at a decent 70mph and with one lane to go here comes mondo deisel truck at 90mph from behind a rig, on the blind side and in the slow lane, that was close. I had to swerve to the left to avoid being hit.

Enjoy your Scrambler.

FATTONY23 -

1. If you're planning to take the MSF course, reserve your spot NOW! They fill up very fast. I know of MA riders who had to take their class in NH.

2. You have my sympathy. Having driven in all of the major east coast cities, I can tell you that Boston area drivers are, hands down, the worst. NY/NJ can't hold a candle to Boston for impatient drivers.
