So after 575 hard miles on my speedy (with 0 problems) from Wauwatosa, WI to Omaha, Ne all on back roads and highway 92, pulled up to a stop after my last stint from Knoxville, Iowa to Omaha on I 80 1/2 mile into Ne. at midnight after starting in Knoxville at 7PM stopping once for gas and bottle of chocolate 2% milk, I pulled up and thought to myself "something is wrong"- oh ya, have to down shift, use brakes and put my feet down! I stop, take off my helmet, call my daughter for directions- 15 minutes to go; pull into her apartment complex, into her little lockable garage, turn off the motor, pry myself from the "solo seat" (good investment) stumble into her living room, hug her and my wife and after waking up looked at pictures of Rocket III Classic Tourer. "I wonder if I could trade in my Speedy for that??" Was this a moment of exhaustion or what? Keep my Speedy or get a wheelchair? Opinions? But Team Triumph are not allowed to make comments- they are not objective. :???:

Don't trade it in! Add to the stable, and don't give us any remarks about not having the money. It's called credit. You can't take it with you when you die, so spend it all now!
Wow, that was crappy advice, but if you can keep the speedy and get the Rocket do it.

Exactly what I said to myself around 1030PM on hwy 92 detour really really dark, "why do I do this, I could be in a bar somewhere and going golfing in the morning like normal people- I'm glad I'm not normal people!!"

I have been looking at the rocket tourer also. I have yet to take the speedmaster on a really long trip yet (400 max).
I am going to ride around Lakes Superior and Michigan next month and see how it does.
Depending on that, the rocket might get another look. Plus you can pull a 5th wheel camper with it!

I thought about a rocket for a moment too, tho not the tourer. What stopped me was that it hit me that the one and only reason to get a rocket for me was acceleration. Everything else was a negative.....speedy is much better looking, hugely expensive tire replacement at often at 1/2 the mileage of a speedy, heavy as ****, higher maintenance costs in general, lower gas mileage, double the initial cost, doesn't handle as well, ugly engine, likely harder to self service, if it falls or just tips over it's likely to destroy much more parts due to weight. Anyways, they're great for some i suppose. But i just couldn't see trading all that for acceleration. Even freeway cruising on the speedy is fine at 85 mph.....it's smooth as silk at that speed. I suppose if you ride 2 up with a ton of gear for long distance it would be good, but thats about the only sensible reason to get one i can see. If thats you purpose, and i guess it is since you mentioned the tourer, go for it. But if thats not the main purpose and you intend to ride it in town a lot more i would reconsider. Or maybe wait till we see if the 1600 is a reality because that may be the perfect in-between solution. Just a thought...

575 miles is a long time in the saddle of any motorcycle. I love my Speedmaster and it's done great on some 2-up touring, but it's not a true touring bike.
Just my 2 cents here, but I test rode a Rocket over the weekend. If I won one in a raffle, I'd ride it straight to a Victory dealer and trade it in for a Vegas or Kingpin.

Kevin, just wondering why you said that, keeping in mind all of what Daz said.....Are they as cumbersome as they look? I'd hate to take a right bank with one, they look one side heavy or should I say they "appear awkward".....Speed.

Speed, some people must like the Rocket, they sure sell a bunch. Heck, my best friend rides one! But to me it required too much rider input.
For example, my Speedmaster, the 2 Victory bikes I test rode and a Honda 599 I rode just before the Rocket are all FUN AND EASY to ride. A Rocket is just a lot of bike.
Look, if you want neck-snapping acceleration and a triple digit top end then get a Rocket.
But 800 pounds and a hot car engine between my legs? No thanks.
