I want to remove the reflectors that are glued onto the sides of the rear fender. Don't want to cause any damage. Any suggestions from those that have done it?

Thanks

Adam

fishing line...wrap the ends around your index fingers...use a sawing motion back and forth...that will cut the foam...then grab a can of WD40 or some starter fluid...soak the adhesive that sticks to the fender....and gradually work it off with your thumbnail....wax the area when your done. No harm, No sign they were even there...

On other vehicles, I've done it with fishing line to remove the reflectors, then Goo-Gone to get rid of the remaining foam and adhesive. It's some great stuff, and should cause no problem for your paint as long as you rinse it off when you're done. And of course, apply wax, as mentioned above.

Get some dental floss. Cut off a couple of feet or less. Use this as a "knife" to remove the reflector. Try to cut through the adhesive with the floss closer to the reflector than the paint. This will cut the reflector right off, leaving you to clean off the goo. I used WD40, my fingernail, and a lot of patience, but I had no damage to the paint. Don't use a strong solvent--WD40 or kerosene are as strong as I would go.

Also helps to heat it up a bit with a heat gun or just leave it in the sun a bit before attempting to remove it.

I did it the same way, with a hair drier. Then I used some WD40 to remove the adhesive that was left on. Then I used some sand paper to rought it up a bit. Then I painted the fender black.

I did no painting - heated them and used Goop for the adhesive, the some wax. By the way, I removed the front ones the same way and then realized how dopey it looked with the bare bracket sitting there and took the bracket off. Should have done that in the first place. :???:

Thanks for the advice. It's a minor project for tomorrow, the start of a two week vacation.
