I've got a small oil leak at the top of the "outer tube" on my right fork. I assume this is a bad oil seal?

Looking at the shop manual, this appears to be a royal PIA fix. Looks like a complete disassembly of the fork, with new oil, oil seal (of course), washer and bush needed. How bad a job is this? Is the dealer the only place to get these parts?

Forks are extremely soft now. Maybe I'm just paranoid but I swear I can almost get the forks to bottom out just by pressing on them. If I have to take the whole freakin' fork apart, maybe this is time to upgrade the springs?

From what I've read, PITA unless you've got specialized tools. I'd take it to the dealer if you have one you trust. Yeah, good time to upgrade springs.

Look on the bright side.

Well, now is the time to put on some gaiters, new progressive springs, and upgrade your fork oil.

If you are into it....you could also have your lower forks chromed.

It's not too bad of a job Dusty, considering you don't have a garage I'd just ride the bike down to Bill. He could probably have it done in a hour, and like Mark said it would be a good time to add gaitor's if your into that look...as well as some different fork springs.

I've had the Ikon progressives, I think knowing what I know now I'd contact race tech and get some springs from them based upon your weight.

Bummer on the seal!! I remember when i di it on my Magna PITA!! I am super careful t owipe down my exposed tubes after every ride. Grit or "love bugjuice or ?" So far -so good. If you gotta do it do them both w/ springs- the whole works & be done w/ it! Its been 4+ years? Too bad not as easy assome shocks on a car?? O well- think how nice shell handle when done!!

Thanks y'all. I guess I'll bite the bullet and spend the $ on new springs and gaitors. Hopefully that will improve the ride and help protect the forks going forward. Judging from the responses and my own mechanical ineptness, I'll take it to the dealer. Great mechanic there.

btw - i posted my NH single seat in the classifieds if anyone's interested. I going for the SCCTrim, Fattrat traditional look, and the extra $ will help with the forks. This thing's been .05 & .10'n me to death lately.
