My hands (throttle especially) get numb just riding around town. Longer trips are hell. I didn't have this problem with my 72 Daytona. I've read plenty of posts on handlebars, but before I switch out my bars I'm interested in hearing about how other riders deal with discomfort.

What's your experience? Is is all about bars? Have you tried other bars and still have the problem? A lower seat? (I have a Corbin Smuggler being painted - will know soon!) Wrist position? Riding habits? Abs of steel? Take a cab?

Some people buy bar-ends, I used a roll of pennies in each side. They are much cheaper and are probably heavyier.

I've filled the bars with lead shot, put a rubber layer between the bars and the clamps, installed risers, put "O" rings in the space between the twist grip and the end plate.

The most effective thing, so far, is using a "Cramp Buster".

The "Cramp Buster" is a plastic, paddle like device that lets you use the palm of your hand to control the throttle. It costs about $12 and should be available at any large bike shop.

I had the same problem. My solution was to purchase the handle bar risers from New Bonneville. Now if only I could stop the wind buffing from the summer screen that is wearing me out.

when it happens to me, I suddenly realize I've got 'death grip' on the handlebars. I often find I need to relax my body, not just on the motorcycle. We live stressful lives.
Might be just me. I also sit more upright to get the weight off the hands.

The throtle thingy has done the trick for my friend for 2 yrs now. I will be getting one here real soon! There are gel grips ought there as well. My hands are numb any how so I dontreally notice it that much? The thingy is nice tho- makes stretching the fingers easy. My old bikes had a throttle clamp so you could let go for a moment to stretch. :???:
