Am I the only one who thinks riding is so fun that washing & polishing gets postponed time and time again?
Like yesterday: Sunny skies, 25C, nice twisties to roar along. Who would want to stay home with bucketful of water and soap? So I took her for a spin
But one of these days it will be rain and she will be shiny polished again... just don't know when that'll be.

I bought mine to ride, not polish.
She gets washed about once a month, lather it up, and hose it down.

Compare it with mud wrestling; not all good things in life are spotless! :hihi:

Amen to riding vs washing. I try to keep my bike somewhat presentable but if there is a choice I ride. Some people have a real passion about keeping their bikes absolutely spotless. That mind set totally eludes me.
Different strokes for different folks.
But for me, I'll ride, thank you.

The last time I won first for dirtiest bike at a rally, one of my prizes was something called a shammy cloth. Anyone here know what they're for?

A shammy is a cloth that is very absorbent and can be used for drying bike after wash or rain. Keeps those unsightly water spots off your polished bike.

I'm the same way. I've owned my bike for three months now and I've washed it once. Admittedly, it doesn't get very dirty because it never rains here. I just dust it off (not from lack of use, mind you) from time to time and ride.
Cheers!

A friend of mine had a "79" GS1100, which he bought new, after about 65,000 miles he sort of stopped washing it.
He used to take great pride in pointing out that some of the bug guts were from extinct species.

The Bonnie is not an easy/quick bike to wash IMO. Most of it is detailing. After you clean the tank, side covers, fenders, and engine cases, the rest is a matter of specific cleaners, little brushes, and wishing you had tiny fingers, ie, time-consuming detail work. A bike all covered in fairing is much easier to wash, but that's certainly not what any of us wanted with the Bonnie.
