Happened today while riding through a Thunderstorm, just like it happened in my last thunderstorm. Pretty simple, the bike just quits running. Last time I thought it was electrical. (It quite in a hurry) This time it died a bit slowly - more like going to reserve.
Since the last time, my mechanic looked it over and found nothing to fix.
Each time, the bike fires up and runs after waiting on the side of the road for several (I guess 10) minutes. I think an earlier post suggested that the gas tank tube may be clogging??? Anyone have any thoughts. By the way, I was delighted both times when the bike did start up - but very sad to have to pull of the road. Ned Adams :hammer: :hammer:

Also, can there be any bike damage from riding in the rain?
Cheers.

Happened to me a while back. I took the gas tank cap off rocked the bike back and forth and it started up again. Not a long term solution but something to try if it happens again.I t had stopped raining by then and I haven't been out in a heavy rain since. I've done a couple of short trips (500 miles) no residual problems.

Could be water getting in the kill switch.

Hi mate,

I was having similar problems a while ago (not just in the rain), and was ready to tear my hair out. I thought it was a fuel flow issue.

Some other forum members suggested every connector (especially all the ones in the headlight shell) with di-electric grease. I did it, and it's been brilliant ever since.

It won't hurt to try this, and will only take a few minutes.

Cheers and good luck

I had this problem during the late 60's early 70's with these bikes. The electric rectifier under-the head light.
bad connector or a rectifier that's not water tight.

This would be a blocked vent in the gas tank. Many of these bonnies (including mine) have a real tendency to stop venting in the rain and cause this problem. If it ever happens again, just reach down and loosen the cap a bit and it should kick right back in.

The top of the vent tube is visible in the filler opening. See if you can find a piece of tubing which will fit over the vent tube, and blow through it, hopefully clearing the blockage.
I would also suspect the interlock switch on the kickstand.

I think you have the answer. The replies that suggest electrical malfunctions do not take into consideration that the bike starts and runs fine after about a ten minute break. A blocked vent tube is probably clearing itself during that time. Next time it happens, I will loosen the gas cap and see. Thanks, Ned
PS I think maybe the vent tube is to long, which would enable it to pick up particles of the water. I think I will shorten it by an inch or so.

Edwin,

I recently had the pleasure of riding my T100 through several thunderstorms with no problems.

The only thing I did before I left on my trip, was too check all the rubber bands holding the electrics under my seat. I found they where all dry rotted and broken, so I used electric ties to hold them in place. I then also made sure that my battery connections where tight.

I had no problems in the rain other than being wet and cold.
