I have a 04 Thruxton with 4000 miles, My girlfriend rides it more than me. I rode it yesterday and heard what sounds like a chain noise, is it likely at 4000 an adjustment is needed, Primary, or cam chain? Is that something I just havent heard before? It is very slight but internal. I just changed oil and used Mobil 1. Ideas? Thanks ~T~

The valvetrain is very noisy, and it's normal. It sounds like a fast clacking/rattling rusty nails in a coffee can w/ a fast rhythm kinda sound.

Which is all wrong. Actually, it sounds like a medium-paced, muted tchanckling (clanging + tinkling) of steel marbles in an espresso can with a sorta syncopation and rumba thing.

Sweat and Badrufus need their ears tested!
The sound is that of 20% oversize king scorpions fighting with paintball guns in a miniture corrugated iron shed.

ANyone who wishes to dispute this should make sure thay've heard the scorpions first.

P.S. don't worry about a little mechanical noise. Ride and enjoy.

I listened to my buddy's Thrux and his engine noise is louder than mine, so I'm happy. Just not used to riding a bike with an engine that sounds like an appliance. I've rode alot of bikes over the years and they all are differant animals. After examining the descriptions of sounds, I've decided, you are all right, I can hear them all, marbles, expresso can, scorpians and paint balls, nails, all of it I hear, which means there's nothing wrong with mine, except I need louder pipes. I also noticed the faster I go, the less i hear the noises, which is good also. Thanks guys, ~T~
