Bit of an electrophobe but have a go anyway - I recently switched to LED indicators and Brake/taillight, no probs..... But wasn't happy with the numberplate light so switched that today wired everything up and when I switched it on the taillight went - checked the fuse and it had blown...

So new fuse and switched the wires around on the numberplate light plugged it all back in again, again taillight went.

So by this stage getting late so remove the new numberplate light tape up the wires and start investigating. I have power to the taillight to the fuse, the fuse is not blown but I am not getting power to the taillight connector under the seat? Brake light still works but there is a break in the power somewhere?

Any suggestions?

Thinking I need to ground the the wire that runs to the number plate light as it is still part of the circuit?
Shirley it couldn't be that simple?

Nope that didn't work......

Again open to suggestions!

Blackjack. It sounds like you are blowing fuse 10 right ?
And now you don't have any power at the connector for the tail light ? "Sounds" like a short between the fuse and the connector.

If you have a multimeter, pull the fuse and check the resistance between the output of the fuse holder and the earth on the frame. There should only be the load from the front parking light on the circuit. If you have very low / no resistance, you have a short.

But before I started to dig into the wiring, I would remove the new assembly from the bike and check that the unit is OK with a multimeter. Just to make sure that there are no shorts in the tail light and that all the wires are what they are supposed to be. The factory doesn't always get it right.

cheers

Greg

Thanks Greg, unfortunately no multimeter - just a probe tester.. It is the 5 amp fuse No8 that blew at first. It hasn't blown since but just as you said no power to the connector. I checked the other fuses at the time and this was the only one gone - but I will go and check fuse 10 again now. Knowing 9 times out of 10 it can be something so simple with this sort of stuff.

I just hooked up the stock tail light assembly which is still all intact, connectors and all and same thing all working except taillight, so this should eliminate a wiring fault from the new set-up so as you said there is something happening between the fuse box and the connector

Lanser - your a genius.... thankyou..... We have taillights back

Fuse 8 went the first time when I switched the wires fuse 10 must of went. Dohhhh

This is why I hate electrics - it can make you look so dilmoc....

Thanks again

Looking at the positives - I am getting very proficient in whipping seat, rear guard, electrics, taillights etc etc. off though.....

Now lets look at those intake couplings that are A... about Face
