Just ordered a uni-filter for my speedy. It'll be interesting to see if I can tell any performance increase. At least you can clean and reuse it too. A riding bud told me that he cleans his in dish detergent with hot water, and thens sprays it with marvel mystery oil. I might try it when it needs it. :-D

I use dishwashing liquid too. It's made to dissolve grease so it's perfect. I could tell the difference, but it's totally dependant on the bike's state of tune. Giving it more air isn't necessarily going to make it run stronger. It could actually do the opposite........as i said depending on the bike's state of tune, or what it NEEDS. If it's running on the rich side you may well feel and improvement because the extra air will lean it a bit and get the mixture closer to optimum. Of if it's not needing more air, you may get the extra oomph by rejetting richer so it then CAN use the extra air to balance out the extra fuel, IE: better balanced and MORE mixture.

In other words, the UNI does flow more air than stock, and if the bike is in a state of tune where that would be beneficial, or you make it so, then the difference should be felt. I felt a difference with mine. But heres the deal.......the good thing about them is as you mentioned the ability to clean them. Not just because you don't have to buy new filters when they get dirty. But because as a stock filter ages it's constantly degrading from day one in it's ability to flow. So you have les and les air flow every day from the day the filter is new to when it's ready for the trash heap. To keep it like new so your performance never drops off you'd have to replace the $25 filter every couple months or whatever. With the UNI you can clean it on a regular basis so that you always have peace of mind that your bike is running it's best, at least as far as mixture. I think they're a must in my book. K&N's are supposed to be good too, tho i have no experience with them.

You're correct about how the uni can lean out the mixture due to increased air flow. I'm fortunate that mine is running slightly rich, so the uni filter should even it out just right. And like you mentioned, a paper air filter starts clogging up from day one. You can clean the uni as often as you like...I think the K&N's cost a bit more too. The uni is just as good. :-D

No really......UNI from Brent, $28.95. $39 Aus dollar converted to US dollar=$32. So the UNI is actually cheaper By about $3.
