Hi all...
New to the site
New to motorcycling

I have just ordered a new Speedmaster in black. This will be my first bike and I cant wait. I wont have it for a couple of weeks.

So what would be the essential mod I would need for this stock bike?

Cheers!

Welcome heretic.

Loads of info here. Take some time and go through some links on your left, such as "rat.net wiki", the tech component of "General," and all 3 of the "Twin Talk" sections.

MOST folks start off, even before mile number 1, by having the AI system removed (to reduce pipe bluing.)

Search and learn, and don't hesitate to ask dumb questions. We're more than eager to supply dumb responses.

:-D

Congrats! You are going to love the Speedy...I love mine! There are so many mods & accessories it is mindboggling but you really don't have to do anything right away as the speedmaster is a great ride stock.

It appears from my seaching the forums that off-road pipes are extremely popular because the stock one are so quite. I have been considering this because, as they say, loud pipes save lives, but most are very expensive. If you plan to do alot of long distance rides, I would get a windshield, but this kinda changes the bad*ss looks of the speedy.

I guess I suggest riding the bike a few thousand miles and get the feel for what mods/accessories are most important for your riding experience. Seaching the web for cool mods and accessories is also a great pastime. Everyone has their own vision for their bike as well as different size bank accounts. So have fun with it all!

Welcome, you're gonna love the speedy and all the stares it gets. Since you are new to motorcycling I am going to suggest a msf course to help you outlive your children, if you will or do have them. we like to keep our members around ya know. Anything we can learn to defend ouselves from the crazy cagers and ourselves is a good thing

Thanks for the suggestions.
I did an MSF course a few weeks ago.
I guess I will be riding early in the morning for a few weeks until I get comfortable on the bike.

Thanks again....

Hiya, Heretic. A good choice of bike and colour. You'll hear others say that their colour bike is fastest/bestest; have none of it-black is THE colour. :-D :-D

The best advice I can give is to TAKE IT EASY to begin with. Get used to the weight of the thing at low speeds (the weight disappears as the speed increases), how it handles/ corners, how it stops and starts. I imagine your Speedie is a hell of a lot heavier and the riding position so much different than the bike you took your course on. Try to find some deserted road and ride at different speeds.

Mods.? Pipes, pipes, pipes. It changes the whole character of the bike. As stock, and to use the cliche, it sounds like a sewing machine so get something else on as soon as you can. I have the long TOR's- they're fine for me but others find them too quiet. Do a search for pipes and you'll get a million different responses; at the end of the day, it's what floats *your* boat. :-D

Most important of all: welcome and enjoy.

neill

PS Just to confuse you even further, you may want to get people's opinions on how to run the bike in. Some say take it easy, others (myself included) say run it hard.

Black looks good on bike. Keep the rubber on the ground!

Congrats !

and I do believe that black is the fastest. Certainly faster than blue or yellow, red might be close.
